I’m also an OOS student from Oak Park, IL and applied to GT early action. Is GT a school out of my reach? I really want to go here but being an OOS student, I feel like I’m not very qualified.

Thank you so much for your feedback and advice!!

Stats are below average. It’s even more competitive if you’re out of state. The OOS population is only 20%. That being said, you can’t hit a shot you don’t take. The worst thing they can do is say no.

your community service will help

Chance my S please
My S has applied EA for class of 2033 . What are the chances for GT ? EE or Ind Eng. OOS /Asian American / Male

So this is the type of people applying? Well seems like im going to community college and not Georgia Tech

@coolguy40

Undergrad population varies from 40% to 44% OOS for each incoming class.

The overall student population grad and undergrad in Atlanta is 54% OOS.

Essay:
8/10- I felt they worked towards Georgia tech’s core values, and other people said they were good, but I’m just not sure. They were from the heart though.
Recommendations
More likely 10/10-I’ve known this teacher for 4 years so I feel she will write me a good rec

I’m also an OOS student from Jersey City NJ and applied to GT early action. Is GT a school out of my reach? I really want to go here but being an OOS student, I feel like I’m not very qualified.

I meant to add my SAT II scores were 790 Math(TRIGGERED, 800 Physics. Sorry copy pasted first comment.

OP, you have good stats. GPA is a little on the low side. Looking at your ECs, I think you’ve got a good chance of being accepted. Good luck.

OP, I also think you have a good shot. Good luck!

@coolguy40, some departments at GaTech are now 50% OOS , like College of Computing. Also its much easier to get into GaTech if the student wants to study biology, or chemistry , as those departments are relatively small at GaTech and it may be a slight boost to declare biology like @clbbrock63 .
GaTech mechanical, computer engineering, and CS is about 70% of the school. Business, international business, economics, and architecture are small, along with all the sciences, math and the other humanities majors. GaTech is very very lopsided school, so students who express interest in other majors, may have a much easier time. GaTech needs to find students who want to study biology as so few want that today.

So its not at all a straight 20% out of state get in. The legislature of Georgia only mandates the AVERAGE
number of Georgia kids, and thus GaTech can play around and let in a ton of OOS students in some departments,
as long as the average works out to be legal. Its an actual law at most state universities, the number of in state
kids they are required to accept.

The school makes good money on the OOS tuition and fees. All in state Georgia kids win a Zell Miller for
the first semester. They can hold onto that, if they get good grades and the Hope Scholarship has a lower GPA,
so every OOS student pays for about two in state students.

CHANCE ME FOR GEORGIA TECH—Unfortunately, after evaluating the two people above me, it seems like Georgia Tech may be off my radar, but I’m still willing to give it a try.
