Chance me for Grinnell? (International Student: Pakistani)

Pakistani male.

Unweighted GPA: (3.8/4.0)
SAT1: 1900 (680 CR, 540 Math, 680 WR)
SAT2's: 800 (Lit), 780 (World History)
ACT: 33

Excellent recommendations.

Essays are the strength of my application, especially my Common App.

Too lazy to type out my EC's, but there's a distinct emphasis on leadership and community service.

There's a catch, though. I'm an Intl student, applying for considerable aid. Should I consider ED? And what are my chances for RD?

1900 SAT is very low. Don’t even bother submitting it. Submit only the ACT and you have a pretty good chance, though I don’t know how much aid you would get.

Is Grinnell historically generous with aid?

With my ACT and SAT Subject Test scores, shouldn’t I have a great chance of getting in? I’m above their 75th percentile.

Yes, I think your ACT and high subject scores will put you in the ballpark. Before you consider ED, you should contact Admissions or maybe check online to see if you can get out of your ED contract if you do not get sufficient aid. Grinnell is generous with aid and < I believe better with aid for Intl students than most LACs, but you won’t know how much you will be awarded until you are admitted and get the FA package. There is no downside to applying.

I think Kurdryavka is right that if you can just send in ACT and subject tests, by all means do that. When my son was applying, I think if you wanted any SAT scores sent, they would send them all, but I believe that has changed.

For U.S. citizens, Grinnell is need-blind and meets full need. Sadly, they don’t have the same policy for international students anymore. I believe they still meet full need for international students, but they take need into account when making admissions decisions. If you do get in, yes, they will be VERY generous with financial aid, but your chances of admission are lowered because you’re an international with need.

Honestly, it’s really not fair and there are a lot of people on campus against this policy, but Grinnell doesn’t really feel the pressure because there are so many other colleges that have the same policy regarding internationals. Sorry.

But yes, you do still have a good chance even with that weighing against you. Your stats are excellent.

I think I’m right in saying, though, that Grinnell is more generous than most LACs in giving aid to International students. I think they value the diversity highly and have the endowment to back up their values. I’d welcome any other input on this. Many LACs can’t even be need blind for domestic students anymore.
