White Caucasian from Connecticut
Intended Major: Computer Engineering

Schools I'm applying to:
1. Georgia Tech
2. Purdue
3. Lehigh
4. Bucknell
5. Lafayette
6. Virginia Tech
7. Rensselaer
8. Pitt
9. Penn State
10. SUNY-Binghamton
^^^(No specific order of choice).

GPA: 3.55 UW - School doesn't do W
Rank: Top 12%
Rigor: All Honors classes, AP Chem (4), AP Physics, AP Calc AB
HS: Sends a few grads to top schools per year.
SAT: 800 Math, 630 Writing, 620 Reading, 2050 Composite
SAT II: MathII - 780, Chem - 720, Might take one more...
ACT: 31 Composite

I think GA Tech is within reach, a kid last year with a 3.1 got in but his SAT scores were really off the maps.

That is the only college I know of since it is in state and my school sends about 5 people every year to that college (it is a magnet school).

As for Bucknell, I heard a lot of people say it is tough to get into. Renesselaer has an okay reputation but I am not too sure about their admission requirements.

The average SAT score for GA Tech was a 1300 (on math and reading), you seem to have a score above that but I don’t know whether to call GA Tech a safety, it is a great school.

I’m a junior at Lehigh, majoring in Chemical Engineering. Over the past two years, it has become even more selective that when I applied (now ~20% acceptance rate). I know a female, 1st gen. American engineering applicant who was rejected here, but accepted at CalTech. That being said, it is very tough to determine who has a definite/great chance at being accepted into any particular school.

Your extracurricular activities are similar to my HS ones (minus mock trial). That should help your chances in the admissions process. The AP experience will look good. I’d say you have a fairly good chance of being admitted here.

I also applied to Pitt and Bucknell. Honors College at Pitt, wait listed at Bucknell (Lehigh is a better school, but Bucknell can be tougher to get into if you are seeking financial aid. I think Bucknell holds that against you.). Purdue is a top-notch engineering school, but given its size, I think you’d have a good chance.

Good luck in the process. Lehigh is really awesome, so if you can manage to get in and feel that it is a good match for you, go for it!

Your SAT’s are terrific, GPA is solid, transcript is good, but EC’s are admittedly a little weak (w.o leadership could hurt you). Write excellent essays!! Here are my chances:

Georgia Tech: Low Reach
Purdue: In
Lehigh: Reasonable Reach
Bucknell: Reasonable Reach
Lafayette: In
Virginia Tech: In
Rensselaer: In
Pitt: In
Penn State: In
SUNY-Binghamton: no idea

Wouldn’t worry much about Purdue Engineering. Have a few friends in the Engineering program who had the same stats as you and as long as you can show your strength in Math on such things such as the SAT then your fine. Should highly consider going there since Engineers are praised quite well haha since it’s known as an Engineering school due to it’s great program. Great campus, campus life, athletics, environment too.
