Chance Me For GW

George Washington University is my dream school and the dream school for many other people with my intended major of political science. As a high school junior I have compiled a list of possible schools to apply to in the fall but my top choice is, of course, George Washington. My only worry is, that I won’t be able to get it in due to my low credentials.

GPA: 3.3/4

Test Scores: Test Optional

AP courses: AP Government and Politics, AP American History, AP World History, AP Psychology, AP Literature, and AP Anatomy

EC: Tutor, Volunteer at School District’s elementary school, Debate, Model UN, Reading Olympics, played the flute for four years, Accepted to Interlochen Arts Academy twice and three Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Currently I do not have an actual job but I am being paid through sponsorships on Wattpad due to the amount of attention of my books have been receiving on the site.

Also I plan on scheduling a campus tour, an overnight stay and an interview- I don’t know if that will show how interested I am or not.

I come from a middle class, single income family in which my father only makes $80,000 and they’re already paying for my older sister’s tuition at her college- so I will definitely be in need of financial aid, scholarships and government grants.

Thank you for everyone who responds, it is much appreciated.

Schools like GWU value interest greatly, so concentrate on demonstrating interest. Your credentials are low, so you absolutely MUST apply early. Consider also American University, also great for political science, also located in Washington DC, and a bit weaker academically than GW (and closer to your reach). If you choose American, you should definitely apply early, as their restrictive early program accepts 80% of applicants against 20% in the non-restrictive. Best of Luck! Also beware, American is need-aware
