My father died halfway through 8th grade and that screwed me up for the first half of High School
~3.0 gpa freshman and sophomore year
3.5 junior year with APUSH and AP English comp
Senior year 1st quarter projected to be 3.7-3.8
I really only bounced back emotionally this year
ECs involve heavy drama dept involvement, middle school homework helper, and volunteer in African orphanage
32 on most recent ACT
Plan on applying ED 1
I’m sorry about the loss to you and the rest of your family. In your case, it is likely you will choose to convey the significance of this loss within your application; this is the only way to explain your grades in the earlier part of HS.
Additional academic factors that will be considered are the number of AP classes you’ve taken in relation to the number available, your scores on your AP exams if you submit them, and whether you can otherwise demonstrate breadth and proficiency in academic performance. Your ACT is excellent.
Extracurricularly, your volunteering is good. For your involvement in drama to be meaningful, it should be extensive enough that it will be apparent that you will continue this interest in college.
After this academic semester has concluded and the next has begun, you yourself should know whether your academic work has caught up to where, under different circumstances, it might have been. This last stage should determine whether your chances of acceptance are realistically in your favor. ED1, once you have confidently decided that Hamilton is for you, will help. Wishing you success and happiness.
Decent shot. Only issue is your GPA… It should be much higher for a school like Hamilton. 32 ACT is great though, and I’m sure you will be able to write an amazing essay. Good luck
@merc81 Thank you so much for your detailed response. I am taking three AP classes next year (eco, french, and environmental) for a total of 5 overall out of 13 offered. I do plan on communicating to Hamilton my desire to continue my theatre in college. Once again thanks for the great advice.
