American Studies or History or Biology major (different for different schools)

Race: Indian
School: Competitive
Country: Canada
Hooks: none

Schools I'm applying to:

Harvard
Stanford
Princeton
Penn
Cornell
Northwestern
Columbia
USC
Brown
Duke

You have a outstanding gpa and strong test scores. Your ECs however, are not as strong as the other candidates who are applying to similar caliber schools. Add over rated minority (Asian) and international applicant, chances look slim. Good Luck!

Yes:
USC
Northwestern

Maybe:
Brown
Cornell

No:
Harvard:
Stanford
Princeton
Columbia
Duke
Penn

agree with harvardachiever.

You should definitely add some safety schools.

oooo, overated is kind of a harsh word to describe a race. maybe overrepresented? But other than that, harvardachiever is pretty much right. I would apply to some state schools maybe.

I think you definitely have a chance at all of them: essays and recs are a major factor in admissions decisions, as you know. hardacheiver was a bit harsh in saying overrated, but as a minority, Indian is a highly represented minority. You don’t have any stand out EC’s but if you do develop one soon, you can always email your schools and inform them – theyll simply attatch it to your admissions file.

with good recs and an essay, this is where you stand:
Harvard - reach
Stanford - reach
Princeton - reach
Penn - low reach/high match
Cornell - low reach/ high match
Northwestern - match, no worries
Columbia - reach
USC - match
Brown - reach. they put a huge emphasis on community service and you’re a bit light on it.
Duke - low reach

If i may suggest finding one or two good safeties? You’ll be fine getting into Brandeis of BU
Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1068708-do-you-think-i-have-chance-updated-info-will-chance-back-if-youd-like.html</a></p>

You should try doing some research during the summer. That could help with your EC’s a bit. All of the colleges listed seem like reaches but not impossible. If you can get great recommendations, write great essays, and, perhaps, do research this summer (and maybe publish it), you may have a shot.

Chance me, please:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1065811-chances-mit-harvard-princeton-few-others.html</a></p>

You look just as competitive as anyone man. The only thing is being both an ORM and International might hurt you. You’re not applying for need-aid are you (otherwise all this could change)?

This is what I think:
Harvard - Reach
Stanford - Reach
Princeton - Reach
Penn - Low reach
Cornell - Low reach
Northwestern - High match
Columbia - Reach
USC - Match
Brown - Low reach
Duke - Low reach

Good luck bro. I think you’ll get into three or four schools on your list.

Your academic record is amazing and get your chances up alot. Your ECs are OK to good, probably average or slightly above average for most of those schools.

International and Indian might be a problem at some of those schools, otherwise, with good essays, your chances are almost as good as they can get at those schools.

Harvard - mid reach (for everyone)
Stanford - high reach/crapshoot (because of financial aid, have heard they are having some financial problems)
Princeton - mid reach
Penn - high reach (because of aid)
Cornell - mid reach (because of aid)
Northwestern - mid reach (aid…)
Columbia - high reach/crapshoot (very tough on aid for intls…)
USC - low reach / match (don’t know fin aid policy)
Brown - high reach (aid…)
Duke - high reach (aid…)

Good luck anyways!
Please chance back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1062868-chance-swede-wharton-harvard-yale-etc.html</a></p>

i definitely don’t agree that your extracurriculars are weak. you just don’t fill your ec resume with fluff and, instead, do meaningful, time-consuming ecs.

Your GPA and SATs are excellent, but like most others said your ECs lack. The Ivies and Stanford all receive applications from A+ students who study hard and do well in school. They’re looking for the people who go above and beyond simply numbers - the ones who show passion and leadership. With that being said, your application won’t stand out unless you’re able to produce an excellent essay and letter of recs. Nevertheless, your numbers only work to your advantage and you still do have some ECs so you are a competitive applicant. Apply to some more matches or safeties though.

Harvard - reach
Stanford - reach
Princeton - reach
Penn - low reach
Cornell - low reach/ high match
Northwestern - match
Columbia - reach
USC - match
Brown - reach
Duke - low reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1063724-chance-me-please-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thanks for all the chances guys. By the way, I’m not applying for Financial Aid anywhere.

I think at some colleges Canadians are treated like domestic applicants, but I’m not sure.

Your scores are solid and so is your GPA. You have are competitive applicant for all schools. Your EC’s are pretty good, but nothing crazy. You should get into at least one, though it depends on how Canadians are treated.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1063017-i-hate-do-but-chances.html</a></p>

Yes:
USC
Northwestern
Cornell

Maybe:
Brown
Duke
Penn
Columbia

No:
Harvard:
Stanford
Princeton

You have solid grades and a solid GPA, so good job there  In the “no” category, I still think you might get into one of them, but I’m just putting them there to be safe.
Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1067666-chance-me-uc-berkeley-ucla-stanford-johns-hopkins-princeton-harvard-yale-brown.html</a></p>

Where’s the INSTANTANEOUS re-chance? ;)

You have a high gpa and sat scores, but as others have said, you have weak ECs, Here’s what I think:

Harvard: High Reach
Stanford: High Reach
Princeton: High Reach
Penn: Mid-Reach
Cornell: Match
Northwestern: Match
Columbia: Mid-Reach
USC: Match
Brown: Possible Match/ Reach
Duke: Mid-Reach

An interesting fact is that this year, Duke, Columbia, had the highest number of applicants apply this year. The OP should get into Northwestern and USC. Maybe even possibly Cornell or Brown. :)

Yeah, you’re not chancing back?
