Your EC are average for kids applying to these most elite universities. I would raise your SAT bc right now u are only ~25 percentile for some of these schools (HArvard, Yale, Princeton, UChicago, Brown), and unless u have something else going for you (athletics scholarship, etc.). Your GPA is rather impressive considering the advanced rigor of the courses you are taking.
since you are African American, you do have a minorty advantage.
-Yale low reach/reach (apply ED)
-Princeton low reach
-Brown PLME match/ low reach (if apply ED)
-Stanford low reach/match
-Johns Hopkins match/low reach
-UChicago low reach
-WUSTL University Scholars in Medicine
-Pomona match
-Boston College match
-Boston University match
-UMass Amherst match

Harvard low reach/reach

again most of these schools are reaches for everyone so don’t be discouraged. chance back!?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527194-brandeis-chance-will-apply-ed-chance-back.html</a></p>

You are an URM, which will play a large factor into your admissions process. I think you’ve got a great GPA and a fantastic workload. I think you have the potential to get your SAT up a lot. Get above a 2200, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into most, if not all, of your schools.

UMass Amherst is a match, along with Pomona and BC/BU. Johns Hopkin’s might be a low reach. Yale, Princeton, Brown, Stanford, and Harvard are all reaches, but not high reaches. I would not suggest an Early Action to Harvard unless you have a true passion for the school though; Harvard’s early action pool is extremely competitive and you will probably get deferred and you want a final decision from a school you are most passionate about. But those are just my two cents. You are highly, highly competitive.

I’m just going to say that if you write a great essay, you will get into University of Chicago. My friend got in with a 2.5 gpa…

If you get that 2200 you’re pretty set for all of them.

@Timberwolf, I am taking what you said about Harvard SCEA into consideration, since the applicant pool is incredibly competitive. I might be slightly be competitive, but I’m not THAT competitive, lol.

@TeresaPanda, I’m putting A LOT of work into my UChicago essays, so fingers crossed!

@cakebatter, Thanks! I’m also taking the ACTs and I got 34-35 (depending on whether or not you factor in the correction factor) on the diagnostic for my practice book without prep. We’ll see how it goes!

Bump, 10 char

You seem to really have things figured out. My only suggestions (which you already mentioned) are to retake the SAT as well as those 2 sub-750 SAT Subject Tests. Do that and write good essays and I’d say you are golden. Also If I were you I’d try to throw in some unpaid internship work in there to help cushion your volunteer times. Other then that I’d say you have a very good shot!

Do mine?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1534157-my-chances-these-schools.html#post16217665</a></p>

Other than SATs you are on par for all of those schools. Your workload/GPA/ECs are pretty fantastic. You are also an URM, which is a great hook.

Chance mine?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1534126-how-do-my-chances-look-duke-ivies-etc.html</a></p>

@Brogrammer17 and @danhwkim, Thanks for the input, I chanced you both back!

I agree with the others! You have really good chances for all the schools. However, I do recommend you not apply for Harvard SCEA unless you really really wanna go there. You will have a higher chance at the other Ivies if you do their EA/ED than Harvard. Your grades are amazing, but your ECs don’t really stand out. So if you could maybe get a good leadership position, do that.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1533472-chance-me-top-business-schools-please.html</a></p>

@chestnutt, I am beginning to reconsider applying to Harvard SCEA. As much as I really want to go, I’m not sure how my chances stand against the other much more competitive applicants. If not Harvard SCEA, which school would you suggest I apply to early?

hi what is your weighted system btw? thakns for chancing me

harvard’s scea rate is like 13% and regular about 3.4% so you might want to take that into account

your ECs are definitely ‘above average’ though
still that’s not good enough unless you want to just be in the top 50%
you have a reasonable chance at all of these schools; do well on the essay

-Yale: reach
-Princeton: reach
-Brown PLME reach
-Stanford: reach
-Johns Hopkins: low reach
-UChicago: low reach
-WUSTL University Scholars in Medicine: high match
-Pomona: low reach
-Boston College: low match
-Boston University: safety
-UMass Amherst: safety

@math64, Thanks for your response! My school’s weighting system just weights IB classes very well and honors classes decently well. Lol, I’m not really sure how to describe it. And I’m giving the essays my all and hoping for the absolute best!

Bump…

If I were to not apply to Harvard SCEA as some people are suggesting, do you guys have any suggestions on where I should apply early?

UChicago EA.

You have great chances at these schools, but these people are overemphasizing the SAT. There are many African Americans with similar ECs and GPA with 2200+ GPAs who got rejected from Harvard. An African American applicant got deferred with a 2360 last cycle. Just work on your essays, which are much more important.

If you really have looked everything up and then made up your mind on Harvard for EA, I think you shouldn’t waver and change your decision based on what a few people say because you really have got a real shot here. You understand where you need to improve, i.e the SAT, otherwise with some brilliant essays and great recs, there really is a probability that you might get in there. Personally, I feel that you should apply early to either HYP or Stanford. Best of luck!

Your GPA is excellent, and will bump up your AI by quite a lot. Being an African American female is excellent for chances, and your two paid internships will help a lot.

I personally think you need to bring your SAT up, but if you succeed in getting 2200+, you have very good chances at Harvard.

Back?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508837-chance-princeton-upenn-jerome-fisher-ivies-etc.html</a></p>

Thank you all!

I have decided to still apply to Harvard EA and let them decide whether or not I am a competitive enough applicant.

I am working a lot on my SATs this summer and I will do my absolute best to make sure that my essays are the best pieces of work I have ever written!

Can I get a bump bump? bump bump
