Hi

I am a sophomore at Bangladesh. Not being in the US I dont have a very good idea about the type of students that harvard takes in. Can anybody comment on my chances and probably suggest me on ways of improvement?

From Grade 11

I will be doing the IB Diploma programme with 5 HLs (Math, Bio, Chem, English Lit, History) and 1 SL French
SO course wise by the time I apply for Harvard I will have 2 years of 5 HLS, 1 SL, a foreign language for 4 years

I will be taking the theory of knowledge and an extended essay

As part of CAS I am intending to do activities related to my passion (neuroscience, math, books and gastronomy) so that will be 50 hours of community, action and service

President and founder of a book club which I am intending to continue for 3 years

Top 3% of class

PSAT- (I hadnt prepared much so its pretty bad) Math-54 Crit Thinking 51 Writing 55

I am applying for the Harvard SSP during summer and Stanford OHS
Anybody any suggestions or tips for that?????

And I am trying to fill my extra curriculars with works related to my interests instead of doing a bunch of boring stuffs. I am trying to make the reume a bot lopsided on the sciences and reading and gastronomy as passions

Those PSATs scores are not even close to what an average harvard student would get. If thats all you have to offer, I’m sorry but you have no chance.

If you get your scores up by ALOT, then maybe a slim shot.

Yeah, mate, I’m sorry, but 160 is not “pretty bad.” Again, if you can get your scores up, maybe, but–this is not to brag, but I don’t know much about my Harvard friends’ PSAT scores (or even if they took it) because they are so irrelevant to our current life, so my only reliable example is me. Anyway, I took the PSAT stone cold in tenth grade and got well over a 220. Nor am I an exceptional test-taker by Harvard’s standards. Your extracurriculars aren’t terrible, but, from looking at this brief chance post, I don’t see a compelling reason for the adcoms to take you even if you got your SAT scores up to 2000 (still low for Harvard.) That doesn’t mean there aren’t good reasons, but if you can’t articulate why you’d be a good candidate for Harvard despite weaker ECs/scores than most applicants or if your SAT scores doesn’t go up to at least 1900–as the floor of viability, although that level will still bring down your chances a lot–you will not be accepted. If you can do those things, your chances, like almost everybody else’s, are slim, because no one has a good chance for Harvard. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but good luck.
