Chance me for Harvard

Chance me please

SAT I : 800 - 800 - 800 (2400)

SAT II : Math Level ii - 790 & Chemistry - 800

AP :
Calculus AB - 5
Calculus BC - 5
Biology - 5
Microeconomics - 5
Macroeconomics - 5

GPA : 3.88 (total of 5 B's but got only 3 B's on academic course)

Rank : not known since attended more than one high school.

New School Valedictorian will have taken total of 10 AP classes And has no B's.
I will have taken total of 11 AP classes but has total of 5 B's.. (3 B's on academic class)

Am I doomed because of those B's ??...
What should I do to get rid of those B's ?
Can A's on high level classes at CC compensate for those B's?

What are your ECs?

EC’s?

As far as just numbers though, I think you’re fine…

Thanks guys, but can anyone tell me how much those B’s have impact on my admissions ?? I am really worried…

Of course those B’s will hurt. If you are not completely perfect, it will definitely not work to your benefit. That 2400 is amazing though. It will definitely help you out.

Colleges do NOT expect you to be ‘perfect’… They know we’re human!

And OP, what grade(s) did you get those B’s?

to give you any accurate representation, we need to know some of your ec’s.
My recommendations:

 1. if you can, retake math level 2. that 790 will hurt, especialy with the nice curve
 2. your GPA is not stellar, but even it is probably sufficient for harvard especially if you’ve taken a lot of AP’s(as you claimed)
 3. take one more subject test(I believe harvard requires 3, correct me if I’m wrong)

I appreciate it :)

To LesleyCordero : Thank you, LesleyCordero. most of them were from sophomore.

To ilovediannaagron : Thank you, ilovediannaagron. I will try to retake SAT II. I mean… most of B’s were from old high school. I don’t want to say this, but the teachers were really racists…

Yeah, those B’s will hurt…a lot. We’re talking about Harvard; they have PLENTY of applicants who get perfect grades and have amazing ECs. Unless you’re a URM or have some other hook, it doesn’t look likely.

well to give u a perspective…

i got a 2350 (close enough), 800 on math2c/chem/phys/apush and a 790 on bio, 11 AP’s by junior year, all 5’s, as well as siemens semifinalist and some olympiads…and I got rejected by harvard, stanford, and mit

as for gpa, i (when i applied) had a lil lower gpa, in the high 3.8’s like you

i think my stats are pretty close to yours, but the thing that I’ve learned is that top colleges care ALOT about your gpa. like maybe i just didn’t have luck or something, but GPA plays a major, #1 role in what school you go to.

but the good thing is…with those scores, you could probably go to any of the other top schools, excluding harvard/mit/stanford (cuz those are just too selective), and still get a fantastic education. what they dont tell you is that the education difference between harvard/mit/stanford and schools like berkeley/etc isn’t that great (they all have nobel winning teachers, for goodness sake), and it wont be the name of the school you attend that will matter in the end, but how YOU make a change in the world and how you do in college.

so in the end, you might be a lil hurt if you do not get those names (which I hope you can, unlike me), but if you do end up like me, know that you will still be going to a great university and become a great person regardless of where you go.

but anyways, dont give up hope, and i hope you go somewhere awesome! (feeling motivational after a few weeks of depressing over colleges)

(fyi i read a survey that showed that incomes after college arent determined primarily by the name of the school but the person’s actual intelligence/smarts, they just showed that better schools have higher incomes because the people who go there are usually smarter, but not always :P)

^too sad… do you know any other reasons why you were rejected from those colleges??

Do you know any way to compensate for those B’s ??

Perhaps if you told us your EC’s, we could tell you how they might “compensate”…

You’re not doomed because of the Bs. But you’re most probably doomed at Harvard because they tke 6% of applicants, and half are hooked. So the admit rate for the unhooked is Tiny, and they get tens of thousands of applicants, most of whom are qualified, for very few spots. Mist 2400/Val’s don’t get in. Mist Seimens winners don’t get in.

As an interviewer, I can tell it’s now unbelievably brutal. My interviewees this year were a stellar crowd with stats and ECs that blew me away. None got in.
