Chance me for Harvey Mudd, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon

Just like the title suggests, I would be really happy if you could give me your thoughts here. I really want to go to these schools because they're the best for computer science in the nation. Also, I've visited them, and think that I'd make a good fit at each. Anyway, without further adieu,

[li] SAT 1: CR 750, M 800, W 780. I'm probably not going to send this.
[/li]

[li] Extracurriculars: Wind Ensemble: First/Second chair Trumpet (we don't really have assigned seats, but I end up playing most of the solos)[/li]Varsity debate member/coleader (everyone in my event is a coleader because we pretty much govern ourselves)
AVID Tutoring
As said above I help manage a small technology-associated nonprofit seeking to change the way our country governs itself. I've done a lot of work here and it relates a lot to computer science (which is what I'm looking to major in). Further, I've actually communicated with professors from Carnegie Mellon and MIT in regards to this nonprofit (I'm not sure if that means anything or not, but it might).

[li]School Type: Public, about 5 or so people get accepted to these top schools every year (out of about 15 who apply)
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: Caucasian/Latino (I look white, but I'm technically latino)
[/li]

[li]Gender: Male
[/li]

[li]Income Bracket: Around $80,000
[/li]

[li]Hooks: I don't think I have any.
[/li]

Thanks!

i’d say given your scores and extracurriculars, you have a very good chance of getting into carnegie mellon. i’d be surprised if you didn’t get in, actually. I don’t know much about harvey mudd, but i would say that will be a little more difficult, and MIT is a crapshoot for everyone. you have the scores, you just have to prove how worthwhile the research you did was.

chance me!

For MIT I think you have the grades but you have to proof you can do research and have in depth knowledge of math and science. Maybe you can join some summer program that deals with some technology related stuff, like robotics.

Bump (hope that’s okay)

if your research is good i’m sure you have a good chance, but to be honest you don’t have to many great ECs or any national awards like siemens or intel, so you might be looking at a bit of a reach for MIT. Apply to Caltech too, just for the sake of raising your chances of getting into a toppie. you’ll have no problem at cmu or harvey mudd

chance back!!!

You’re Latino and you’re a decent candidate. URM status will push you over the top

@addymithas

Really? The thing is, I look white and no one would ever notice that I was latino unless I told them so; as I could qualify as Latino only because my mom lived in a south american country for the first ten years of her life (her dad was a US ambassador). Do you think that marking myself as latino would be a significant bonus, or would it just cause the adcoms to groan?

You’re not Latino; you’re white

@dudewhereismycar

No. Looking at the definition posted on the hispanic/latino forum here on CC, I fit the official definition of “latino.” However, I am not hispanic; this is because hispanic and latino mean completely different things. Still, I wish to know if I should include it on my application.

Bump

10char

Hey, thanks for your chance :)

Your grades are amazing, and tbh, your SAT I and II are awesome as well. I think that you have a really good chance at everything with those grades, but I’d recommend that you try to beef up your extra-curriculars more. The idea of running a non-profit is very impressive, since it does require a significant amount of work to get one up, so kudos to you for that. But otherwise, you’re practically a shoo-in for Carnegie Mellon. If your extras are the same as they are now when you’re applying, I’d say that MIT and Harvey Mudd could be a reach. Anyway, good luck :)
