Chance me for Hopkins ED 2019

This is a repost from the JHU forum because I realized I put it in the wrong forum and I wasn’t sure how to move the discussion.

Hi! I’m a junior who’s really nervous about where I should apply next year. My dream school is Hopkins, though, so I want to know how I’ve been doing so far. Please chance me!

Recommendations:
8/10 chemistry/physics teacher; she loves me and she let me read what she wrote for research programs, but I haven’t seen other people’s recs so I won’t be able to judge

8/10 Algebra 2/Statistics teacher; she loves me and she said she wrote me really good recs about my personal growth in her class for programs, but again, no standard of comparison

Demographics:
School: Public magnet
State: NJ
Race: Indian
Gender: Male
Income: I’m not getting much financial aid

Thanks for your help!!!

You took all of your subject tests before the end of Junior year? You look like a very good candidate. Three of my children have been admitted to Hopkins and your stats are on par or better. The only thing is that I see you are at a magnet school and, from what I understand, schools judge rigor based upon what’s available at that particular high school. We are a (non-magnet) public school, so that’s what I’m comparing it to.

Thank you! My school is relatively new as a magnet school, and they’ve sent some kids to Hopkins over the past 2 years. From what my guidance counselor told me I had more extracurriculars than they did, but I realize I’m competing against the general population. I’m really worried because admissions were brutal this year, but hopefully things work out.

one thing I think helped me was not saying I was pre med. Even though I never planned on going pre med, they probably get so many pre meds applicants that indicating you do not want to be pre med likely helped me get in.

I may be wrong of course, just offering my thoughts.

@bioscrubber With your USABO status alone, you stand a good chance!

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats are great and your ECs are good. With amazing essays you have a relatively great chance of admission to JHU
