Interesting. In this thread, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1124971-chance-brown-ed-et-al.html</a>, you say that you are Indian and have no hook. In this case, you don’t stand much of a chance at HYP.

I did, but I have come to realize that the question asked on the common app is what can you identify with. My families customs are similar to those practiced in Sudan

Good statistics, but compared to most Ivy applicants, you’re lacking in ECs terribly. The high SAT scores and GPA coupled with the first generation student part MIGHT be enough to get you into lower level Ivy League schools or (much more likely) other top-ranked schools.

I left out some of my other ECs.

I am a three year Varsity tennis player.
I am on a team tennis travel team. I am the captain and recently the team came in 2nd in the county.
I will be participating in a mentored research program at NYP Hospital this summer. With this, I plan to enter some contests.

So are you Black, Asian, or Indian. Asian or Indian, your chances are okish. Black, and they’re a bit better. But you have to be ACTUALLY Black. You can’t just “identify” with being Black.

My dad’s side of the family is from Sudan and my mom’s side is from India.

Yes, but is he African (Black) Sudan, or Muslim (Middle Eastern) Sudan, or both?

Because if he is Middle Eastern descent rather than African-Black, saying you are African American would be incorrect and unfair.

No, he is “African” black not Arabic.

You have a fairly good amount of ECs, your scores are fine, and the fact that you are Blasian helps (look at Tiger Woods, despite his philandering, he went to Stanford).

But I have to ask (you don’t have to respond if you aren’t sure of the answer): You do have a significant amount of leadership roles, and they are impressive. However, do you feel like you’ve earned them because you genuinely care about the clubs you are in (and feel like you want to and/or are currently making, a difference), or do you feel like the membership is simply “something for HYP, etc.”

Otherwise, you do have a solid shot at those schools.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1150966-chance-me-cornell.html</a></p>

I am a leader. No matter what I do, I feel I am capable if making a difference in my clubs by being the face of the club, whether I am organizing a fundraiser or a bake sale or a field trip. All of my clubs were chosen because of interest. I started them all freshman year before I really knew about college admissions. For two of my clubs, I am thinking about getting recommendations from the advisor who will be able to write on my passions for that specific club.

That’s a legitimate answer. I feel like a lot of teens today who are in the process of college preparation seem to spread themselves really thin and only do things for the whole admissions process, with no real interest or passion in the subject. As for you, you are definitely the opposite of a lot of teens.

Tiger Woods was hooked… To say the least!

Any other comments?

This is definitely an impressive application, and you will be able to get into great, great schools. Saying that, HYP are tossups for everybody. Also, you have to think that nearly every person applying to those schools are going to have perfect applications, you need to give yourself an edge that will make you a more attractive applicant.

You’ll get in to most if not all. You’re a competitive applicant of an under-represented minority. Your stats are good.

Sorry, I chanced you before I realized being a person of color was worth the equivalent of a sh

Your chances are about 6%, give or take a few percentage points.

you are a very strong applicant, however, it is almost impossible to tell with ivy league and other high selective schools the outcome of an application…
with that said I think that you will definitely get into swarthmore and johns hopkins

I think you’re a strong applicant who could use a bit more for volunteer/community service work. Not only that, but I agree with joev319NY that you need a pit of an edge to stand out from the typical over-achieving HYP crowd. One disadvantage you do have is that you come from an over-respresented state, but I don’t think that will factor too much into your admission.
