I would be hella suprised if you didn’t get into any of HYPMS.

If you would like, you can PM me for a resume that got into MIT (w/ very similar stats)

Thanks Calvin!

Your “numbers” are excellent – highly competitive at any university – however, can you afford these schools?

Hmm I think these schools have need-blind financial aid, so as long as you’re qualified, you should theoretically be able to afford it without having to, say, mortgage everything you have. Hopefully? lol

No, you indicated that you are Asian – not Asian American – and FA policies are VERY different for international candidates.

In addition, “need blind” really refers prncipally to admissions and it generally means only that acceptance decisions will be made without regard for the candidate’s financial resources.

Moreover, while “need blind” institutions frequently ensure a full FA package is provided, often this is a combination of your payments plus grants, loans, work/study, etc. Therefore, your theoretical hope of “not having to mortgage everything” is not always correct; the loan amounts and student/parental contribtions to the aggregate FA package can be quite substantial.

Oh oops I am Asian American (thought it was fairly obvious from like Science Olympiad and other stuffs) - thanks for the catch

Hmm true regarding cost… well I’ll look at later that if I get in. I’m pretty sure the financial aid at these schools will make the cost lower for me than for pretty much any other school other than maybe my state flagship and community colleges, so if I couldn’t afford these schools even with the aid package, well then I’d be kinda screwed lol

Also oh oops just realized I wrote “need-blind” instead of “need-based” - my bad - thanks again

@kirito69‌: No problem whatsoever. You have an outstanding record and I trust you’ll not only gain admission to one of the first-tier National Research Universities, but also receive a truly affordable FA package.

@TopTeir - I don’t think he needs to state “Asian American” the way you indicate. You can be Asian and be a US citizen. His application probably indicates more info.

@PERplexD‌: I’m not all sure I agree. In my opinion, all U S citizen should – first and foremost – be Americans, proud of our heritages and their traditions to be sure, but absolutely committed to each other and to this nation. After serving as a naval officer for over two decades, and after seeing the brotherhood and commitment that flourishes among those who wear America’s uniforms – from every conceivable background and demographic – and that sustains us throughout VERY difficult times, I believe it is wise and appropriate for every citizen to place his ethnicity behind his nationality, which is American.

All reaches, but definitely have a shot.

@TopTier I’m actually Canadian lolol but I live in the US (but we’re all bros so it’s all good) - should be treated (application-wise) about the same right? (they don’t seem to distinguish much, especially for Canadians)

@TopTier You can take your presumptuous, pretentious, self-indulgent American pride and shove it down your own throat…not the throats of others.
I was born and raised in America.
This does not require me to have any form of gratitude for “being an American”. I am a citizen of America and America only. Yet, I still feel as if I should apologize for being American each time I visit Europe. I take absolutely no pride in being ranked 36th in mathematics, 25th in reading, and 27th in the sciences. I hate to be the bearer of “surprising” news, but America is no longer a country of excellence.

So please, do not tell persons that they must indulge themselves in American pride simply because they hold some level of American citizenship.

Thank you for your military service, but your conservative indoctrination is not needed here.

^ ^ ^ ^
Your comment (#14) absoutely validates that my “conservative indoctrination” certainly is.

lolol 36th in mathematics… out of like 50 countries…

changing the subject, well idk what subject there is to change to lol
