I think that your statistics are exceptional! You have almost perfect SAT and ACT scores and you are ranked number 1. My only concerns are that your weighted GPA is only a 4.1 (though that could be because your school doesn’t offer many APs), and that you don’t have any national awards(other than national merit). Other than that though, I would say you have a good chance at gaining acceptance at HYPS and would assume you would also retrieve some form of scholarship to Rice. However, keep in mind the unpredictability of HYPS, no one can be sure of gaining admittance. Regardless, I wish you the best of luck!

“My only concerns are that your weighted GPA is only a 4.1”

That shouldn’t be a concern if your school doesn’t inflate to the point of ridiculousness. GPA according to many schools is recalculated as an non inflated GPA. I for one, have a lower GPA, and currently reside in the LAUSD district, where a semester of AP adds .025 to your 4.0, and then it is averaged again- you basically never see the effects of an AP.

You do have fantastic stats. What concerns me most is your misspelling of “wondering” in the first sentence. Any adcom will see that and be turned off.

Excellent stats; I don’t see any reason for not getting into one of the HYPS. You never know though, but you should feel confident with your profile.

Lol sorry about miss spelling “wondering.” Just a typo… but ya…spelling is not one of my strengths = D.

Also, as far as not having many national awards goes, that is kind of a concern that I have. However, part of that is due to the fact that I go to a school that doesnt have many kids who apply to ivies. In its history, we have had 2 perfect ACT scores and my SAT score is the highest we have had. Additionally, the best school that someone from my rural NE HS got accepted to was Dartmouth. So, at various competitons, while the awards were based on individual performance, going to nationals was kind of a team effort. For example, I studied my butt off for science olympiad…but no one else from my school did. As a result, I was the only kid from my HS to win awards at state…so my school sucked it up and didnt go to nationals.

Ahaha, I was just teasing, but it is important when you are submitting applications, that’s for sure. But overall- you are an excellent candidate. Keep it up!

Oh, and I do have a chances thread up…if you can read it, its not really the normal kind though. :)

While it’s true HYPS is never a sure thing, I think you’ve got some of the best chances you could have made for yourself.
I hate people like you…
(hahaha kidding, of course) (sort of :P)

You have an excellent chance no doubt.
All reaches, but of course all HYPS are reaches, you have as good chances as anybody.
I would be surprised if you didn’t get into at least one!

OH. I forgot to mention- working a paper route for seven years is an incerdibly good thing for your application. Adcoms LOVE to see hard work. LOVE.

In 8th grade I soaked up every admissions related book in the LAPL system (read: over 400 books right there), and you’re pretty much the classic admit to Princeton. Other schools seems to be lesser fits, but you never know!

Hmm…well I still will take the 40% at HYPS…thats still fantastic in my opinion. However, are national awards really a make or break thing…I mean I know these schols are extremely high caliber but only so many of the kids that apply will have the 2300+ on the SAT and national awards.

I think you definitely have a chance. Your awards are outstanding, along with your community service and other activities. Your grades are awesome too!

dude you have a pretty great chance everywhere, plus how many Siberians are that good? A 40% is a great chance for HYPS. you should be proud of yourself

Hey I appreciate the feedback…just one thing though. Actually, I am not Siberian…I am Serbian (from Serbia). Lol but both are very close…Russia and Serbia are both Orthodox, Eastern European countries in the Balkans.
