Other leadership positions held in community:

Editor / Translator for the Utah Korean Community Newspaper
-I’ve been an editor and also a translator for Utah Korean Community Newspaper. There are quite a lot of Korean families and students living in Utah and therefore, the newspapers are read a lot. However, I noticed the lack of quality of these newspapers and often the translation of English articles into Korean was unnatural and misleading. I applied as a editor and translator for the newspaper printing agency and I try my best to improve the quality of articles.

Activities Coordinator of the Children’s Museum in Gateway
-I was a supervisor and a guide for all the visitors at the Children’s Museum. I greeted all the visitors, helped them out if they had any questions and I also organized and cleaned the playing areas for children. I also coordinated daily activities and planned the future activities and events for the Children’s Museum

Community Services:

Volunteered in Children’s Museum in Gateway for 2 years (Activities Coordinator)
-I was a supervisor and a guide for all the visitors at the Children’s Museum. I greeted all the visitors, helped them out if they had any questions and I also organized and cleaned the playing areas for children. I also coordinated daily activities and planned the future activities and events for the Children’s Museum

Volunteered as a biology and math tutor for other students for 2 years
-I cannot get paid from any means of work and technically it is illegal for me to work because I do not possess a green card or a citizenship. My mother possesses a working visa (H1 Visa) and the family members of H1 cannot work. However, I’ve seen many students struggle with school work especially math and biology and I helped them as a tutor.

Volunteered as a piano tutor for other students for 2 years
-Even though my skills are not as proficient as professional pianists or tutors, I taught kids who were starting piano and I tried to teach them piano

Volunteer work at a Down Syndrome Clinic for 1 year
-I’ve worked at a clinic where they take care of children and adults with down syndrome. I prepared food and served food for these people. I played with them and helped them if they have any difficulties.

Key Club UNICEF Trick or Treat Fundraising
-Key Club holds annual UNICEF fundraising for children all across the globe. I’ve helped raise money for this cause and helped organize the fundraiser with other Key Club members.

FBLA Pop top Fundraiser
-I’ve participated in the FBLA’s pop top fundraiser. I was actually an coordinator of the fundraiser and organized the event. Hillcrest FBLA collected soda tops which could be donated to be turned into insulin needles for hospitals.

Hillcrest Art Club
-As the art club president, I organized meetings and events that promoted art and artistic activities for Hillcrest students. We also organized various activities to decorate the school with chalk drawings and also ornament making.

IB Tutor
-I am helping out fellow IB students with their homework and guide them if they have any questions regarding colleges and future plans. I was very intimidated and felt helpless when I first started IB and I hope I can be of help to new IB students and create a bond between students in IB.

I know my resume isn't that impressive
and I am an international so I have a really really realllllly low chance of getting into these schools but chance me plz..

-Harvard
-Yale
-Princeton
-Stanford
-Brown
-Rice
-Amherst
-Pomona
-Upenn (Wharton)
-Emory
-Baylor
-Darthmouth
-Columbia
-Northwestern
-Penn State
-USC
-Wash U

HYPS doesn’t look likely with your academic credentials, namely your SAT and GPA. If those were higher, then you have a great chance.

A mid-reach would be Dartmouth, Columbia, UPenn, and Brown. Matches are WashU, and Penn State looks like you’re safety.

Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1024829-chance-me-competitive-schools.html</a></p>

Think about cutting back your school list. Your 18-school list is way too many. Narrow it down further to maybe 8 or 10.

thx for your reply
yea I was thinking about taking SAT again or just sending in my SAT score
(i took ACT 2 weeks ago so that score should come out soon and if the score is good I’m going to just send in my ACT score)

and yea I’m going to reduce my college numbers to around 12
I just wanted to know what my chances were for these schools…

bumpbumpbumpbump

plz anyone else? I don’t wanna keep bumping my post but…

I will chance back! :(

bump bump? anyone? D: I only got one response :(

if this is your 3rd year in America, that’s realllly impressive for an immigrant
but for your mini resume, you said you published a book, what type of book? self published or actually submitting it to like a publishing company that printed and edited it for free…b/c that type of thing takes like 2 years usually for most authors. i also looked it up online but didn’t find it, except for a link back to this thread?

but anyway,
your scores aren’t the best, but there are people who get in with lower scores, so I really don’t think that’s toooo bad of a deal. for hyps, I definitely think you’re reaching a lot, but then again, I don’t know your full resume, so I can’t really judge. I’d recommend comparing yourself to the stats on CC a lot, some ppl do AMAZING in school and yet don’t get into HYPS and similar schools by some crazy chance.

If you took away an immigrant status, and your residency is Utah, the above alone would make Northwestern seem like a reach.
But Utah is a crazy good state to live in for college admissions, but if I were you, and all I had was the above, I wouldn’t really apply to schools with less than a 20% acceptance rate (as it seems like all your schools were really, the better part of them)
good luck with essays!

HYPS, Upenn, Columbia seem like reaches… I don’t know a lot about ACT so I can’t say, but SAT scores don’t cut it for those schools… imo.
Brown, Amherst, Darthmouth, Northwestern: midreach
Rice, Emory: you’ll have decent chances
-Pomona: I don’t know anything about the school so can’t judge :stuck_out_tongue:
Baylor, Penn State, USC, Wash U: probably will get in.

Good luck! :D

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1024526-chance-me-please-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

baylor- in
emory- low reach
penn state- in
high reach everywhere else, its your rank

Rank puts Ivies out of the question especially applying as an international. Aim lower :/

Judging by your class rank, slightly lower AP scores, and SATs, WashU St. Louis is a reach.

Your resume is too long for your actual list of achievements. Being a participant/member is not an achievement, especially in relation to local or even national debate tournaments like Stanford. Not only will your actual accomplishments be buried underneath the long list of… frankly, fluff, colleges will think that you’re heavily padding your resume.

I concur mostly with this assessment:

Ivies - Very high reaches. Unlikely.
Amherst - ^
Pomona - High match - Low reach
Emory - Match
NU - Low-Med Reach
Rice - Match
