You have many hooks and pretty good scores! Do you have a reason for your GPA? It is on the low side for the schools you say you are interested in, but if you have a solid reason, or your grades show an upward trend, then it might actually reveal something interesting about you and your situation. If there is a reason, make sure your guidance counselor or your essays explain the circumstance. However, grades are really important. They show that you take your work seriously. These schools don’t want to set anyone up for failure so if they don’t think you can handle the work because of your grade history, the are likely to not accept you.

thanks for replying! yea my grades slipped sophomore year for various reasons, but were excellent junior year

I think your story and scores put you in a good place for lots of top schools. HYP is a reach of course but I think it’s worth applying. Are you instate for cal? I don’t think your chances look good for cal and ucla because they really value gpa. I think you’ll get in to usc–they love high scorers.

yeah @XCjunior2016 I live in state. Thanks for replying! Also @xoxo14‌ sorry i replied to you earlier but i didn’t know that @ buttons worked here.

Do you have a class rank?

@heatman7 - I don’t think you have much chance at all at these schools with a 3.2 GPA. It’s possible your hooks are so strong they may be willing up overlook your GPA, but it seems unlikely.

To put it in perspective, the lowest reported unweighted GPA in the Harvard Class of 2018 survey (from the 70% of freshman who responded) was 3.3, and only a handful reported GPAs less than 3.7. I suspect statistics for YPS are similar.

I’m sure there are plenty of selective universities that would love to have you, but I don’t think HYPS will be among them.
