I’m pretty sure I could get a 290 guessing. Honestly, if you can’t pull a 290 on the Math SAT is HYPS really for you?

Totally agree meteman

The vitriol spewed by others in this thread, as noted by those before me, is absolutely disgusting. C’mon, really, guys?

As to the OP, I’ve obviously got no formal experience or idea on where you’ll end up, but you look like a pretty outstanding student outside of the math (and your hooks don’t hurt either). I doubt a 290 would be enough for any of these schools, but I think some good prep (ie, 400/450+) should be able to boost your application enough that a strong essay/interview would qualify you.

Good luck!

Do you really think these competitive schools would be a good fit for you, considering you are “intellectually” handicapped?

OK- here’s my 2 cents. I don’t think the schools you mentioned are going to accept you.
Check this list out:[Optional List | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest)
There are some excellent, highly regarded LACs who don’t require SAT scores- Middlebury, Bates, Bowdoin, Holy Cross to name a few.

I agree that a lot of peoples’ posts on this thread are absolutely appalling and distasteful. Mathfail is obviously someone who is extremely talented in the arts and languages. Mathfail, I think that you should definitely apply to the top schools. You have a lot of desirable talents, and given your minority status, I’m sure you would get in to some good schools. Also, there are a lot of people at HYPS–recruited athletes, children of political figures, Tyra Banks, etc, who are probably wayyyyyyyy worse at math than you. So apply to whatever schools you like, and don’t let the haters stop you from doing your thing.

Yeah, I heard about Tyra Banks attending Harvard MBA.
I’m just like “gurl, wut chu doin’ that for?”

2060 on SAT! 800W, 800CR (perfect on both those again, and 12 essay) and 460 Math!

Also, I apparently don’t have full dyscalculia because if I did, I supposedly would not even be capable of a 460 on math. I definitely do have some kind of learning disorder when it comes to quantitative reasoning, though.

I also just took the Biology E and English Literature SAT 2s, expecting 800 on both. Do I have to take Math 2? I know I will fail it (and I haven’t even gotten to Algebra 2 yet)

lol, you have low chances because there are people who are good at everything. Good Luck though!

Wow I read this and it’s truly inspiring. I hope that you can disregard the hate comments coming from others. It’s one thing to state your opinion, but it’s another to say it in truly beneficial way. I believe top colleges will recognize and take into account that you have dyscalculia whether it is mild or not. The fact that you are, in one word, a boss at everything else is a testimony to your hard work ethic and ability to excel in everything besides math. However, I must be honest and say that your score will still be a hindrance although colleges WILL recognize that you boosted your math SAT score. You have some nice ECs, which helps immensely.

Answering your initial questions, though, the Ivies that you mentioned will be a very high reach although I think you may be able to land one or a couple. And No, I don’t believe you have to take the Math SAT II.

I have to agree that you are a little underqualified for HYPS(M), but I would definitely look into some schools where SAT is optional, if you are super self conscious about your math score. MAJOR KUDOS for your improvement, and for your 800s.

I don’t believe in this thread this is a ■■■■■ of some sort

With your disability and status as a Native American, I’d say you’ll get in to at least 2 (if not almost all) of HYPSB

You seem so smart except for…well, math (and science). Seriously, it takes still to get 800s on critical reading and writing (I’m envious). If we took your scores from those and my math score we’d have a near-perfect test, lol.

I feel bad that you don’t “get” math though. It may hurt you in admissions at top schools, I’m sorry to say…however, maybe if you emphasize it’s just physically impossible for you to retain the material, they’ll cut you some slack? Overall, great stats. It’s literally just the math! :/

I have never even heard of anyone getting a 290 on any part of the SAT! I’m sorry, but for HYPS you are going to have to get that score up to AT LEAST a 600-650+, and even then it’s a little low. That being said, however, getting a score up that far is not impossible. I might recommend taking the ACT although that could go one of two ways. On the down side, the ACT has a science section also, which could cause your score to lower. However, for the science section, if you can just get past how horribly confusing the passages are you will see that it really only tests your science REASONING skills. I recommended the ACT because the math on it is known to be less tricky. I don’t mean not as hard, because it’s at least equally difficult, but there are not as many tricks and it is more straightforward. If your score was just so low because of the tricks on the SAT, maybe it would help. Idk. I’d say you have an average chance at HYPS if you can get it up…good luck! Maybe consider writing an essay on your disorder?

■■■■■!!!

I think he or she was actually serious…

You definitely definitely have a shot, but you absolutely have to stress your illness in your application. In your essay or recs, doesn’t matter. Make sure they understand what it is that you’re going through.
