Chance me for HYPSM

Hi, please chance me for HYPSM and the other Ivies, as well as Duke, Johns Hopkins, Caltech, UC Berkeley, UChicago, and Northwestern

Ethnicity: Albanian father, Inuit mother
Income status: Very high ($1,000,000+)
Location: Alabama. I go to a small private school.

SAT: 2390 (790 writing) (first and only sitting)
ACT: 36 (also one sitting)
PSAT: 236 (76 math)

Weighted Rank: 2/50
Unweighted Rank: 6-13/50 (7 other kids apparently have the exact same GPA as me so we are all tied for 6th)

Here are my grades for all semesters so far

8th grade AP tests: 5 (calculus BC) - with 5 AB subscore, 5 (statistics)

9th grade:
AP Human Geography A/A (5 on AP test)
Honors English 09 B/A-
Honors Chemistry A/A
Honors Multivariate Calculus A/A-
Intro Programming A/A
Honors Spanish 2 A-/A

10th grade:
AP World A-/A- (5 on AP test)
Honors English 10 A/B+
AP Biology A-/A (5 on AP test)
Honors Spanish 3 B/A-
AP Computer Science A/A+ (5 on AP)
AP Psychology A+/A (5 on AP)
AP Economics Macro (1st semester) A (4 on AP)
AP Economics Micro (2nd semester) A+ (5 on AP)

Linear Algebra (taken online through EPGY) - Pass

11th grade:
AP US History B-/B (3 on AP)

AP Chemistry A/A (5 on AP)
AP Physics B A/A- (5 on AP)
AP Spanish Language A-/A (4 on AP)
PE (1st semester) A
Sports Medicine (2nd semester) A-
Differential Equations EPGY- Pass

I am taking Real Analysis EPGY this summer. I will most likely pass.

Next year schedule:
AP Art History
AP Music Theory
Senior English class - not honors (Have not decided which yet)
AP Physics C (Mech 1 semester, E/M next semester)
AP Gov (US 1 semester, Comparative the next)
AP Environmental Science
Complex Analysis EPGY

My school does not factor - or + into GPA calculation. PE and EPGY is not counted. Honors and AP get an extra point on a 4.0 scale. My UW GPA so far out of 4 is 3.864 repeating. My Weighted GPA so far is 4.783 repeating.

Extra curriculars:

Rowing (4 years by the time I apply to college)
JV basketball freshman year, Varsity the next three years (I am tall, 6'7.5)
Tae Kwan Do (9 years) - 3rd-degree black belt
Viola (5 years)- I used to play in a youth orchestra but quit.
NJHS every year of HS.
500+ and counting hours of community service- working with poor children
School math award every year of HS so far.
School science award sophomore year.
AIME qualifier freshman, sophomore, junior year. USAJMO qualifier last year.

I think my essays should be good. What do you guys think?

I'm worried that I will be hurt by going to a small school and not being the valedictorian. The #1 guy - our probable valedictorian - will probably get into all the schools on my list. He went to my middle school and took the exact same classes as me, except he only gets A's and A+ grades so he is rank 1 in UW and W. He is Black, low-middle income, and he has better Extracurriculars (4-year Varsity Basketball and Football, Piano Awards, NJHS, and more) and even though I won the math awards he made USAJMO as well in 10th, and USAMO this year when I did not. He also has slightly better test scores (2400, 36, 240 PSAT, and 5's on all APs that he has taken, which are the same as the tests I took plus he self studied AP Euro this year).

Is Inuit considered Native Indian or an URM?

*** calc in 8th grade? Very impressive you have as good a chance as anyone.

I’m not sure what it is considered. My mother is a native from the Aleutian Islands off of Alaska, but I don’t know if that is lumped in with Native American.

Anyone else? My grades are not that great and my AP scores are a bit lacking also, and how about my EC’s? One thing I forgot to mention is that I did an internship at Lockheed Martin this summer.

Why the B- in APUSH? Your grades are great, as are your test scores. Your ECs are solid as well (try to make USAMO this year, even if it doesn’t show up on apps). I would bet that you get into most of the schools you apply to. If you cN get Inuit to count as Native American, you will most likely be accepted to every school on your last.

But man, that valedictorian URM is crazy! He will get in anywhere.

I think you definitely have a fair shot. From what I’ve seen, there are several gifted mathematics students with similar math schedules to yours, but it’s definitely a factor that will generate some interest. I mean, self-studying BC Calc in 8th Grade is very impressive. Your test scores really couldn’t be higher at this point and your grades are there, and in terms of EC’s you show a good level of commitment. Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about not being the Valedictorian at your school, either. You have an impressive resume to begin with, and the extra 10 on the SAT won’t really make any difference for HYPSM. A 2390 is a fantastic score in any case, and places like that don’t admit by just numbers. I can’t really speak to attending a smaller school and how that will factor into your chances, but I can say with a fair amount of confidence that you belong in the applicant pool for places like this. Honestly, you’ll have some great universities from which to choose. Good luck!

And Inuit is probably more like Native Canadian, but I’m pretty certain it would fit into Native American for application purposes.
