Chance me for I am worried….

Stats :

ACT – 32 (E34,M31,R32,S32,W8)

SAT Subject tests – Chemistry-800, Biology M-770, Physics-720

High school – British system of schooling, A Levels A, A, A, A in biology, maths, chemistry and physics. 7As in O levels.

Rank –not ranked but I took the most rigorous course load of 4 A levels while most only take 3. Small, private school, graduating class size was 30 students.

ECs:
Held office of student welfare (4 years)
Head of environmental club (4 years)
Editor in chief and creative director of school magazine (3 years)
co-founded lit&arts mag that is quite successful in this region (was even featured in the country’s most read newspaper!)

Work experience:
English copywriting
Public relations for a luxury vintage eye-wear boutique
Copywriting for an environmental start-up company.

Awards in debating, essay writing and quiz (school and state level). A lot of charity work and teaching assistance as well…

Common app essay – quite good and unique in my opinion.. Although I’m worried that the topic is too strong.

Recs – all amazing!!!

Additional info – on my second gap year (is that a bad thing?) I have explained it all the common app though.

Major – double in environmental and economics

Financial aid – Almost 100% needed

International applicant.

Duke ED – rejected
Colorado College EA – rejected

ED2- Bowdoin

RD- UPenn, Columbia, Tufts, Rice, Swarthmore, Middlebury, Pomona, Vassar, WUSTL, Lafayette.

I can probably squeeze in around 2 more. So any suggestions for relative “safeties” although I really doubt there are any..

Those are all reaches except for Lafayette which is probably a high match since you’re an intl’ applicant.

I’d recommend applying to Michigan State, UPitt, Penn State, Rutgers, OSU, or something similar (these are just off the top of my head) since all are much less competitive than your current schools. All of those are fairly good at Economics (not sure how they are at Env).

The state unis don’t give much, if any, financial aid to internationals…

Oh i’m sorry… I didn’t notice that you needed aid.

In that case, I’m not sure where else you should apply. Post in the college search forum or check existing threads. (Sorry - i’m not familiar with many good non-selective Economics private schools that offer a lot of aid to intl’s)

If you’re international and need aid, it’s a dilemma because usually the better universities grant more aid to international students…I think

thanks for help anyhow Truust!

@Skyrior - that is true…i do think that my sats are good enough for most of the places im applying to…and my ecs are pretty decent too…but i dont have a “hook” per se :(

Try checking out U of Alabama’s Economics program (they’re unranked on US News so look for other sources). Obviously it won’t be nearly as good as the schools on your list right now, but check it out since you’ll likely get full tuition there with your stats.

BUMPbumpbump

Most of us don’t have any hooks as well. It’s random. However, make sure to be as unique as possible.

bump

10 char

Why not apply to some UK schools as safties, you have excellent A-levels. Needing financial aid will make it tough at all the schools u have listed
