Hello everyone, I would like to know if anyone is willing to chance me for the ISU Engineering program. Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.2/4, it is weighted
SAT: 1900
ECs: No sports and no clubs(was in FIRST Robotics freshmen year), 210 volunteer hours
Course Information: 6 honors and 3 APs
Awards: My freshmen year robotics team won an award for the best engineering notebook design
Please let me know if I qualify for any scholarships. Thank you!
If you look at their admission website it will tell you, just enter your stats. Really no guessing.
Sorry about that. I should have included more details. My RAI is 273, which is more than the entry level RAI score of 245. My question is, does this practically guarantee my admission, particularly the engineering course? Surely, since it is one of the top programs, ranked higher than Rutgers, I assume that it must be competitive.
What are you looking for? I’m a rising senior in HS, but will say your first 2 years of college will dictate the answer to your question.
If you want my true response, if you question “if”, than no. Either believe in you and your accomplishments or get off the road and don’t create a traffic jam.
@godspeedak1 - Here’s a link to the profile for engineering admissions. http://profiles.asee.org/profiles/6787/screen/19?school_name=Iowa+State+University
We just moved our OOS freshman into his dorm yesterday. He’s majoring in Mechanical Engineering. There are quite a few OOS students in the engineering program, although mostly from the Midwest. My son is from Arizona. His suite-mates are all freshmen engineering students. One is from Illinois, one from Nebraska, and one from Iowa.
FWIW, my son picked ISU over Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan State, and Alabama. The ISU campus is beautiful and we were very impressed with how organized the Engineering program seemed to be. Ames is a nice small college town.
Good luck to you.
@Beaudreau Thanks, the site was very helpful!
@Beaudreau Do you happen to know specifically what scholarships ISU offers or at least the website where it offers a listing? I have checked their website and I can’t find them.
@godspeedak1 - Here you go: https://www.admissions.iastate.edu/scholarships/freshman_award_calc.php
If you plug in your numbers you should get a pretty good idea. My son’s merit-based award was exactly as calculated.
There is no reason not to apply now. You should get your acceptance in a week or two and the formula-based scholarship award in September. My son really felt that the pressure was off when he got his Iowa State acceptance and scholarship award before he even applied anywhere else. Then, a couple of months later, he also got another $3000 scholarship from the Engineering college.
Wow, that is incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Sorry, last thing. The calculator requires something called position in class and total number of students in class. My school doesn’t provide rank.
My son’s school does not rank, so we just made something up for purposes of the on-line calculator. It didn’t seem to matter what we put in. In actuality, they will ignore class standing if your school does not rank.
Ok, no more lol! Thanks.
