Thank you 10char

What is your weighted? I think your chances for the ivy’s are extremely low.

We don’t do weighted. Weighted just shows your rigor and I have done the most rigorous schedule at my school (and then some). Thanks for your opinion, any reason why?

Wow you dug down far to find this thread.

Well I guess while this is here… any other opinions?

your ECs are focused, and you showed your strength in math and science. If I need to point out something you lack, I’d say well-roundedness. Many Ivy applicants not only excel in academics but also are gifted musicians, sports team captain, etc. But it won’t harm you that much if you’re excellent in your focused area. I guess you have fair chance.

Thank you! I tried to highlight the National Forensic League teams in my “explain an EC” essay to show that I had leadership in a larger team and what it meant to me. I also play guitar, but that is something I do just for fun :)

Thanks!

Here’s what I don’t understand: The schools you’re applying to.
Most apply to Ivy League schools for the prestige, connections, and good education. However, the engineering departments at almost all of those schools are lacking.
Your focused ECs are great for actual engineering schools - MIT, CalTech, UC Berkeley (applying directly to the College of Engineering)…and all of those are better than Ivy League schools for engineering.
- Ivies like well-roundedness, as has been pointed out.
- Ivies are harder to get into in general - Harvard’s harder to get into than MIT, especially with stats like yours.
- You’re better off going to Berkeley or University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign than any of those. Except Stanford. Stanford’s good.

Thanks for the feedback! I looked into Caltech and I felt it was too small for me and I just didn’t like Berkeley.

LAst bump…

Thinking about applying to University of Michigan last minute, thoughts?

Although my opinion will have no effect on your chances, I’m kind of addicted to these chances posts. I applied to Stanford, Harvard and UMich. Is science your passion? If so, that might be your selling point, just keep in mind that beyond grades, those schools look for student who are above and beyond so it’s hard to tell anyone’s chances

No opinions on UMich?

and yes it is science!

I think you will get into Northwestern and Carnegie Mellon and deferred at some others. Probably rejected from Harvard

Ya… Harvard is a shot in the dark. Application wasn’t that hard and I believe there is a chance so I tried despite the odds.

Thanks.
