Chance me for Ivies etc. please!

White female (blondie yeeeee)
Small private school
Mech Engineering
SAT: 2210 (770 M 770 W 670 R)
SAT II: Math 1 740 math 2 660 physics TBA most likely high 600's hoping for 700's!
-AP's: HumanGeo (5)
Courses: 3 APs (calc, art hist, lang), others
Rank: N/a but defs top 5%
GPA: 4.0 not including AP's... Have high A's in all three, as well as all my other courses. Straight A's grades 10 thru twelve.

Unique: White female in Engineering?

EC's:
One of four student government for 2 years (at this school for only 3), Piano 12 years, LOTS of soccer (senior school team and captain of club team), lots of art - did a one month portfolio development program this summer, other stuff..

Volunteer/Work:
Have run a student led retreat for leadership/self-discovery for two years now. (200+ hours prep work), do volunteer piano lessons for small children, camp counsellor x2, multiple soup kitchens, self-payed service trip to South America where I helped teach children among other things, aquarium volunteer, do commissioned portraits/paintings/etc

Awards:
Lots of school awards... typical ones, subject awards for top student in Physics 11 and pre-AP Studio Art 11. Various public speaking awards. Passport to Education Scholarship for 3 years.

Essays: good i hope! Talk about how my passion for arts and math/problem solving has lead me to engineering, etc etc

Recs: waived right to access

SCHOOLS:

USC
Berkeley
Cornell
Dartmouth
Tufts
Duke

Tell me what you think!!

The only obstacles standing in the way of acceptance would be lack of good essays/recommendations.

USC - low match
Berkeley - match
Cornell - high match
Dartmouth - low reach
Tufts - match
Duke - high match

You do probably need a safety. Or apply to a few more schools at about the same level of selectivity.

Everything is good except for your SAT IIs. Aside from that I think you have an ok chance of getting in.

USC: Match
USB: Match
Cornell: Low Reach
Dartmouth: Reach
Duke: Reach
Tufts: Match/High Match (Tufts is pretty selective for some reason)

Thank you for your responses - very much appreciated!

I think you have a solid chance. You’ll make it to at least one or two. chance back?

I think you have a good chance! Maybe you can try to increase your SAT IIs, but you should get into at least 1 or 2 of the colleges you mentioned.

Hahah yeah my SAT II’s are low… I’m from Canada and our physics and math are totally different curriculums.

Like others have said, the only glaring problem is your SATIIs. If there is time try to raise those and except for that, stand out in your essays and you should have a strong chance at the schools you listed

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1433927-chance-me-some-top-schools-would-mean-lot.html

“660 physics” - this will hurt you most at Cornell.

Ever consider Penn for engineering? Tufts isn’t very big in engineering.

660 was Math II actually. My first Physics was 600 (took it to see what I was in for) then I studied for a month (ie. learned the US curriculum which is foreign to me) and got a 710. Could this still make serious impact on whether I get in?

USC- match
Berkeley- match
Cornell- high match (they have a very high acceptance rate for females applying engineering)
Dartmouth- low reach
Tufts- match
Duke- low reach

You have a decent shot at all of these schools. The fact that you are a female applying as an engineering major will cartainly help. Good luck!

You are are 660 Math II, 710 Physics, 740 Math I. Since Cornell allows either Math I or Math II, I’d submit only the Math I, if allowed or still possible. Many engineering schools accept only Math II. I suspect that most applicants at engineering schools that allow either test submit only Math II because it’s the one they taken. A 660 Math II score is a low score for the caliber of institutions to which you are applying.

BTW, Cornell won’t use your 770 Writing score.

I think you have a good chance at Berkeley, USC, Tufts, and Duke. Cornell and Dartmouth are going to be stretches, but, then again, it’s not always about numbers! The college admissions process in America is definitely more random when compared to other country’s. I know a person with a pretty good essay, 1710 SAT, and 3.56 GPA who got into Princeton last year. She was a pretty adamant person and her character shined the most through her essay. I hope your essay was reflective of you and the context of your surroundings. Don’t stress out too much about numbers(: I bid you the best of luck!!!
