I am participating in QuestBridge College Match but I probably won’t match anywhere so I will probably be applying through QuestBridge RD if that makes a difference.

You should choose an ED school. All of these schools should give good Financial Aid. ED to JHU or Brown or upenn is prob your best option, I would give you a 60% chance ED hop 50% ED Brown and 40% ED Upenn.

Reg decision chances:
HYP = Low unfortunatly prob 5%
Brown = RD = 10%
Columbia = RD = 5%
Cornell = RD = 30%
UPenn = RD = 10%
Dartmouth = RD = 10%
MIT-EA = 10%
UChicago - EA = 5%
JHU = RD = 15%
UCLA = 65%
UCB = 50%
STANFORD = RD = 5%

You seem like a strong candidate. Definitely send only your ACT as that is much stronger than SAT if the school is OK with that. Agree with trying ED if you have a top front runner that meets all demonstrated financial need. Are both parents from Egypt? Usually this means applying as White (race) unless one is from the sub Saharan part of the African continent (race is then Black).

@goingnutsmom my front runner is MIT but they only do EA. Plus even if I wanted to apply ED i cannot as that is against the QuestBridge rules.

@mikadog thanks for the chance but may I ask where these percentages are based off of?

Oh, OK. So if you apply through QB match you have to accept the school that makes an offer and if you apply through QB RD then you are free to choose the acceptance you want?

How is QB RD an advantage for you then?

Work hard then on your MIT application.

Are you premed?

I don’t think that guy knows how he got those percentages. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Are you URM?

I have heard that QB RD gives you a better chance at schools, but thats only what I have heard. Yes, I am pre-med. Does Egyptian count as African- American? I am also first generation US college student (one of my parents attended college in Egypt) if that is any kind of hook.

@goingnutsmom ^^

If you’re “black,” you’re african american. If you’re arab, you’re officially white.

First-generation means a student whose parents never graduated from college anywhere.

^ The above is correct. If both parents are from Egypt then no, you are not AA. Unless, at least one parent is black.

There was one other poster here on CC who appeared to be trying to insist that Arab descent from Africa was AA and that is not the way it works. You are white. That will be how college apps consider it.

If one of your parents graduated from an Egytian university then you are not first generation.

Nonetheless, there are other things that you have that will help your college app. I think that students overestimate the boost that comes from being URM. Your transcript, EC’s and essays are much more important.

Are these the only schools on your list? It’s very reach heavy.

@goingnutsmom No i have lower UC as safteys as well.
