Thanks guys, and I was just wondering, what could be some safety schools? I don’t know if I am over-valuing myself because I have UCI and UCSB as my safeties!

A good safety school is University of Washington! :)

@IAmTheGOAT - I’m pretty sure top colleges consider AP results that are reported to them - it’s part of your academic record and a candidate with fives on multiple APs prior to senior year has proved their ability to perform at a high level, and will have an advantage over those who don’t.

I don’t think there is any easy way to justify a poor score on an examination without drawing attention to the poor score, so one is better off not reporting it, or reporting it and hoping that other portions of your application offset it.

The reason I brought up these possible issues is because if you understand where your application might be considered weak (or fail to differentiate you from your fellow applicants), you are better able to address these issues. You are definitely a strong candidate but not a “wow” candidate. You’ll get into some excellent schools, it’s just that it’s tough to predict which ones, so it’s a good idea to apply to a wide range of schools and submit the best applications possible.

FYI, I don’t think having only 3 years of language in high school will hurt you as you are already fluent in two languages and have a demanding senior year schedule.

Best of luck!

I would say Irvine and Santa Barbara are safeties but not like GUARANTEED to get in. I would be surprised if you didn’t though. But it’s not like a super safety or anything.

I guess my super safeties would be UCR and UCSC then. Damn… I’m shelling out like 3 thousand dollars on applying and sending scores to colleges…

great match for UCs, Im so jealous of your gpa… if you improve on your SAT score, then ivys are also pretty good shot
chance me too!!

Looking over your SAT and ACT scores, they seem to be on the lower side when applying for the Ivies. However, your GPA and the amount of AP classes you’ve taken up for it may give you a bit of a boost. The thing is, is that you want to stand out from all the other applicants and I think that since you are fluent in two languages, that helps as well. Furthermore, your involvement in a variety of clubs and participation in a sport shows how well-rounded and responsible you are. I would say you have a 40-45% chance with the Ivies. Hopefully that helped! Please chance me back!

The UCs by law are not allowed to look at race, and they more heavily value grades than test scores.

I’m no expert, but I would say that an in state kid with a almost a 4.0 unweighted and decent test scores like yours is likely to get into every UC except maybe for Berkeley and UCLA.

It seems like you might be able to get in, but it is a bit of a stretch, considering the test scores. Chance me back?

You come across as a very focused, motivated person which hopefully will come through on your essays. There is a lot of information to weed through and you definitely could portray yourself better by trimming down some of your stats. I think you are impressive overall and just need to show your best stuff not all of it! Have you considered Notre Dame, UVA, or Michigan? There are many great schools that would be a good fit. Best of luck!

Thanks guys, and so far, my school list is basically all UCs, except for merced (in fear of the dreaded tufts syndrome ), all 8 ivies, Claremont McKenna, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, WUSTL, Duke, Carnegie Mellon, Rice, Stanford, Vanderbilt, USC, and Cal Poly SLO. I am really really scared of tufts syndrome, and am just hoping for the best when I role the dice with the others. I know this sounds crazy (it definitely is, too) but my parents want me to apply to so many. Oh well.

By the way, since I already have 20 colleges on my common app, I unfortunately cant add more.

Oh @iamthegoat at my school, the grading system is ■■■■. an a (90-950 is a 3.66. but hopefully schools recalculate and factor in for that because according to most admissions counselors, they also check the grading systems and compare them to ensure fairness. For example, if I was at your school, my gpa would have been closer to a 3.9 than a 3.7.

Your grades are really good, your scores are ok (Ivie’s freshman profile is 700-800 in all sections), but you lack strong extracurricular activies. I think UC’s are match, but the Ivies… low reach.

Chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1703685-chances-to-stanford-wu-in-st-louis-george-w-university-smu-and-santa-clara-uni-ill-chance-back.html#latest

@sgballsta I understand. It may seem as if my school has a bit of grade inflation. Average gpa is a 3.3, but the difference between a CP (the class difficulty right below AP) and AP classes is night and day. AP classes are much much harder. I have taken all AP classes except for a couple of CP classes, but in the CP classes, I legit slept through the entire class and never studied and got above 100% usually.

I have to agree with the general consensus that the Ivies are lofty reaches. Probably the main thing is to raise your scores. But you might as well apply, there’s always a chance.

Chance me back : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1703251-chance-me-princeton-yale-uva.html#latest

I agree with most everyone here. You need more awards and reminders of distinction. They don’t want just anyone. Also, see if you can make your positions sound more impressive. Make sure to say what all you accomplished as leader.

Chance me back

Your profile seems solid. SAT’s could be higher for the Ivies, and perhaps more SAT II’s.
UC’s are a great match though!! Great job with all your accomplishments
