Chance me for Ivies, UMich, NYU etc?

<p>Hi, I'm an international student (UK) who has been interested in studying in the US for a long time now. I'd be interested in any business/econ related degrees
GPA - all As and A<em>s ( A Levels were 2 A</em>s and 2 As)
SAT - 2280 (780 CR, 720 M, 780 W)
SAT IIs - French (760) Economics (780) Biology (760)
ECs-
Misc:

Duke Of Edinburgh Gold/Silver/Bronze (involves 12 months charity work, a week long expedition in the mountains, and 12 months of sport) - Voted Group Leader all three years
Arranged an exchange between my council and Virginia Beach, VA, to allow young people from my district to travel to America and experience life there.
Taught myself basic - intermediate C++, and HTML and CSS.
My friends and I were quite interested in programming and so sought to arrange an incentive to get others our age in Northern Ireland coding/programming. So we contacted Computing NI and they created a competition to be given to those from 11-17 who can create the best program. Winners were given an award and cash
Received a CREST Silver and Gold award
Drama Grade 4 - joined Drama group as I have strong interest in improvisation - unable to continue as I was unable to make my way to the classes.
Heavily involved in my regional Younglife group (help out at club, attend every week, work crew in camp)</p>

Leader of School Charity Committee (2 years)
200 hours volunteer work in local Barnardo's (children's charity)

<p>Work:
Worked for National Newspaper over a year (reporting, three columns on life of young people in Northern Ireland)
Work experience with Pwc at the age of 16

Started my own yoghurt business (selling in local stores, markets, and online) - profit of £1200 this last year
Participated in 'Stock Market Challenge' with school - most gifted business and econ students invited
'CEO' of our school's Young Enterprise Team - came 8th in NI
Read many books on economics and business to supplement my school studies</p>

<p>Hooks - I am first generation and Irish (which might help haha)</p>

<p>My family do not earn an awful lot, so I would need a quite substantial scholarship in order to attend college in the USA. The colleges I am interested in are: Berkeley, NYU, UVA, UMich, Northwestern, Notre Dame, UCLA and the Ivies. Thanks :)</p>

<p>HYP: reach
Brown: reach
Penn: reach
Dartmouth: reach
Cornell: low reach
Northwestern: low reach
Notre Dame: match
Berkeley: match
UCLA: match
NYU: low match
UVA: match
UMich: low match</p>

<p>Thanks, but I feel the need to BUMP! Please reply :)</p>

<p>NYU and UMich are tough schools, but you seem like a well rounded student. You could probably get into both of those schools. However, the Ivy league is different. There thousands of applicants across the US and the world with a similar profile like yours. You have to really stand out in the applicant pool. 4.0’s and 2400 on the SAT just don’t cut it anymore. Best of luck!</p>

<p>Berkeley and NYU as far as i think, wont give u much aid. They barely give domestics aid, so they’ll give int’l even less</p>

<p>There is no Economics SATII.</p>

<p>It was Maths II but I was told it was closer to our A Level Econ math than normal math so sorry for the mistake :)</p>

<p>Admission to colleges in the states is always harder for international students. More so at ivied than other schools. Nonetheless you do look well rounded, so I think you may have a chance. If I were you I would just go for Cambridge</p>

<p>BUMP! I really need more answers!</p>

<p>I think you have a great chance at landing one of the ivies. Your ECs show passion and commitment</p>

<p>In general the public universities give more financial aid. In your case _ UVA, UMich. Berkley, UCLA and Northwestern have good financial aid packages, too. You said you wanted to study business/econ. Very good comprehensive programs have UMich and UVA. I don’t agree with previous post that UMich is your low reach. Ross school of business has been 3-4 in the rankings for the past 10 years.</p>

<p>Correction- about the previous post-it said that UMich is your low match. Ross school of business is one of the tops business schools in the US</p>

<p>I was under the impression that the publics didn’t give much, which is why they’d be so hard for me to get into with good aid :/</p>
