Will my low SAT scores ruin my chances at top schools?

I think your SAT scores are alright but your extracurriculars seem low… Also you should retake the 710 SAT II subject test as that is a bit low…
Wish you luck :))

Please note that I am not an experienced person and neither a senior member of this forum… My views are based on my personal research only…

I’m actually sorry; I did ■■■■■ (in a way). I am a senior, and I was accepted into 6 out of the 7 ivies I applied to (all except Columbia- I live in NYC). I just had a bet with my friends that people on CC have a belief that SAT scores are EVERYTHING; my friend said that people know SAT scores aren’t most important component of the app process. I go to a large public school in Brooklyn, and I did get into 12 out of the 15 schools I applied to (I was wait-listed to the other 3). I wanted to stress the fact that sat scores DO NOT determine which schools you will get in to; I spent many months being depressed because I thought my SAT score would be too low for even Cornell. Of course SAT scores are important; however, they will not determine which colleges you will get in to. Once you cross into the 2200s, I believe, your score will not play a significant role. I spent a lot of time trying to write unique essays that would capture my love of writing (Yes, I wrote my essays on LOVING WRITING).

P.S. thank you everyone who went through the trouble of writing a response; I appreciate the honesty.

Here is my list of schools if anyone would like to know:

Wait-lsited: Duke, UChicago, Columbia
Accepted: Harvard, Princeton, Upenn, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, Williams, Amherst, NYU-cas, UVA, Fordham, and Macaulay Honors

LOL. I knew it seemed fishy when I saw your letter of recommendations…:D. Yeah SATs aren’t everything and i’m happy they aren’t. Congrats on your acceptance to some really hot Universities! You might want to work on your trolling skills a bit more. X)

Hahahaha, I didn’t even think of that. Thank you! Yes, I actually really do suck at trolling. Actually, people on CC seemed to have gotten nice. Last year, I remember reading SAT threads, and people would say 2290s are not competitive enough. It’s ridiculous. Now the people on CC seem so much nicer. Also, I felt really bad when I read those threads (my superscore is 2210- which is really low in CC standards)!!! When people don’t get in with 2290s, their SAT score is NOT the problem (some people don’t realize that). Also, luck is SUCH a big factor. Anyway, thanks, and I will work on my trolling skills xD

LOL. Yeah I think extracurricular activities proves the most essential! I’m curious to know what you have against Yale too, you applied everywhere EXCEPT for Yale. X)

LOL, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YALE!! Ironically, Yale is the only college I visited (besides Columbia because I live in NYC) for the QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship (this is like a chance to go to a meeting at Yale to learn about QuestBridge). I think Yale is just beautiful and amazing; I love their housing residential system. However, no one (like literally, NO ONE) gets into Yale from my school. One person got in during the last five years. My guidance counselor told me to still apply, but I couldn’t because Yale asked like 7 questions (and I didn’t have time to answer them). I put in a lot of effort into my other essays, but I did them all during Christmas break. Also, I was DEFERRED EA from Harvard, and I figured I’d have no shot at Yale. People told me Yale cares about SATs more than any other school (so I figured there was no point in applying with me score).

Anyway, I really regret not applying. I think I would have chosen Yale over all my other schools (besides Harvard).

@ Soldiers: I’m deciding between Harvard, Princeton, and Williams (I got the Tyng scholarship for Williams- which is $150,000 for grad school). Anyway, I will be visiting all three pretty soon, and I will make my final decision after I visit.
