Chance me for Ivies?

THE PROBLEM (Standardized tests):
2070 combined score SAT I
Still to take ACT, SAT II, and SAT I retake

Your application looks stellar. Nice leadership positions and everything. However try to get that SAT to 2100.

My philosophy with the Ivy Leagues is just to apply to ALL of them. With your record you are bound to get into a least one of them, and if you improve your SAT a little bit it will increase your chances a little bit more.

Chance back?

Thanks! Yeah, I think scores are the weakest part of my application, but we’ll see.

I really would appreciate it if more people took the time to chance me! :D

bumpbumpbump

Why apply to all Ivies?

Seems nice to me. I don’t know much though. But yeah, your SAT is a little low.

I plan to apply to Yale, Brown, Harvard, Cornell and Princeton as Ivies go. Yale is my first choice, but I don’t want to endanger it with bad scores, so I’ll probably apply early to Princeton or Harvard while I retake SAT. Also, theoretically if I got a 34 or 35 on ACT, would it make sense to just submit that and not submit SAT at all?

You apply to all Ivies because it increases the chance of being accepted into one!

But if the applicant doesn’t care for that particular Ivy then, tough luck. But its still an Ivy League.
And Antitypical yes it would make more sense to not submit those SAT scores if you score a 34 or 35.

I don’t know much, but the SAT is deff low for an ivy.
You don’t have many EC’s either

I don’t have tons of EC’s, but I have leadership and accomplishments in the ones I’m in. and 3-4 year committment

I think your ECs are fine! As I just said in another post, they want to see commitment and leadership in ECs, not a long list of them with no passion at all (sorry but I’ve seen a lot of people like this in CC that were then got rejected)
I think your course load, GPA and ECs are fine, but SAT is definitely low for HYP and a little low for the other Ivies. If you prefer the ACT just go for it and don’t retake the SAT, but take SAT II and score good on them. I don’t know about Princeton and Harvard but Yale says that if you take the ACT, you don’t need to take SAT subjects,
though I think is better to increase your chances since most of applicants have them anyway. You can also don’t apply EA anywhere in order to fix things without lose opportunities, but that’s just my opinion
Work hard on essays to stand out and good luck! and if your first choice is Yale I’m joying the official SCEA 2017 thread a lot :)

Sat is weak, need to raise that by about 200 points or score a 34+ on the act and you will be fine.

Everything but the Test Scores is perfectly in order. 2100+ makes you competitive.
Also don’t apply to Cornell(I’m applying there and I don’t need any more competition :P)

I’m with the others - the only weak point is the SAT score. Some people just do better on the ACT (I did) because it’s better suited to their testing/learning style, so see how that goes, and I wish you much success on your next testing dates!

HYP will always be a crapshoot, but your grades and extracurriculars will definitely give you a competitive edge, no matter where you apply. :)

Buuuuuuuuuuuump! lol

“I plan to apply to Yale, Brown, Harvard, Cornell and Princeton as Ivies go. Yale is my first choice”

If you get 34-35 on ACT, then less than 5% chance of getting into Yale, Princeton or Harvard.
Less than 10% chance of getting into Brown.

If you get 34-35 and good SAT IIs then you will have decent chances at Cornell.

@20more

Where are these figures coming from? It’s not as if 95% of HYP students score a 36…

Nobody can count on getting into those schools, but less than 5% seems a bit too harsh, considering the OPs grades and ECs, as well as the acceptance rates of those schools. Why should the OP have a worse chance than the average applicant?

Thank you guys. Yeah, it seems like my weakest point is test scores…
Bump back to first page?

I’d appreciate more chances still (I just like getting lots of opinions) I’ll chance back!

Wow! Your application will look outstanding! You see, the Ivies all have a system of some sort with point application. Any extra curricular and award has its own point award value on the system, and in your case, I’d say that you definitely have a high enough number of points to stand out. Of course, your rank and weighted GPA… Lol, speechless.

With that kind of application, you’ll probably pass their first round of elimination. I had a friend who’s in Stanford and had a similar application, similar problem. She just took the ACT and scored a 35, got in to her dream school.
As for SAT II, I’m not sure about the Ivies, but I do know there are a good bunch out there that don’t look at the scores until you’re a student. It’s more commonly used as a way to gain credits.

Oh and by the way, from seeing my elite friends graduate, it looks like you might be best for Stanford (I know it’s not Ivy, but still…) and Harvard. The other Ivies seem a bit more technical on having high SAT’s, getting academic awards in math/science, etc. Stanford and Harvard are more focused on people who have great time management and pretty good class rank.
Princeton, however… I don’t really know if it’s the best. Same with Cornell. Meh. They’re more geared on “book smart” (almost full score on SAT, national science/math awards, etc) Word of advice: be prepared for bloodshed if you get into Cornell (at least in the math/science department…)

By the way, all the people accepted tended to have VERY VERY VERY good college essays. Just a tip. Happy applying (and thanks for chancing me)!

actually, Stanford is definitely on my list along with Duke and Rice. I have my fair share of fall back schools (UCSD, UIUC, UT Austin, etc) also, so I’m relatively prepared for a variety of outcomes.

The point system is actually really interesting! I wasn’t aware that they used that system for first round eliminations. Thanks for telling me.

And yeah, Cornell… is Cornell. I have a friend who is starting EE there next year. We all hope she survives lol

Thanks for chancing me! If any more people want to chance me as well, I’d be ecstatic! I do chance back.
