Chance me for ivy league please!

<p>Hi, I'm a junior and am very interested in applying to Ivy league schools. My majors that I'd like to go into are Aerospace or electrical engineering.</p>

<p>Math - Geometry Honors, Pre-calc Honors, AP calc BC
Science - Chem accel, AP Physics B, AP Bio
English - Freshman Accel, Sophomore Accel, AP Lang and Comp
Language - 2 yrs of Spanish, currently 2 yrs of Chinese (will continue to 3 yrs, finishing AP)</p>

<p>SAT - 2150
PSAT - 205
ACT - 35</p>

<p>SAT Math II - 800
SAT Physics - 750
will take bio, us history</p>

<p>Unweighted GPA -3.8
Weighted GPA - 4.6</p>

<p>AP Physics - 5 (only one I've taken so far, should complete 10 by end of senior year)</p>

<p>Extra curriculars - play alto sax in 3rd highest band(out of 5) for 3 years
placed 42nd at national scripps spelling bee in 2009
began chapter of charity organization to promote excellence in education in America and send all money to india to provide scholarships
10th grade science fair - gold at regionals, silver at state, research was published in highly esteemed environmental journal
part of school's TEAMS team - won first at state, tied for third nationally
part of NHS - hopefully an eboard member next year
part of Model UN Team - won award at Brown University</p>

<p>have about 200 service hours</p>

<p>play tennis, but not on school team</p>

<p>Only worry - got all A's so far except for 4 B+'s:1 in freshman accel english, 1 in spanish 2x, 1 in ap bio and 1 in ap english.</p>

<p>Since I'm going into engineering, will B+ in bio affect my chances of getting into...</p>

<p>You are really an outstanding student! Try to get your SAT scores above 2200, and I think you will definitley be a strong applicant for ivies.</p>

<p>ACT’s a 35 which is miles better than your SAT Is. If you can, don’t send the SAT. </p>

<p>Decent chances. ECs could be stronger as with uw gpa, but still good.</p>

<p>Don’t ever retake the SAT, and as far as colleges are concerned, pretend you do not have an SAT score. Disregard what SeattleBulldog said.</p>

<p>Which state are you a resident of? If you are a resident of Texas, you can check your class rank against the automatic admission thresholds of Texas A&M and UT Austin (although automatic admissions might mean just the campus, not necessarily the major).</p>

<p>Many of the schools do not have aerospace engineering, although they may have aerospace under mechanical engineering. Most of them are not in the Ivy League either.</p>

<p>You are a wonderful student and will get in somewhere great. Your ACT is smokin’ - so I would submit that, rather than the 2150 SAT. I do not think it is worth it to take the SAT again, but that is up to you. The B+ in AP BIO is not going to kill your chances at any of those schools. Keep working hard and write some compelling essays. Best of luck!</p>

<p>I live in Chicago, so ACT will work great in the Midwest But I heard that for schools on either coast, SAT is the important test score they will look at.</p>

<p>That’s a myth. Please kill it anytime you encounter it. Congrats on the ACT 35.</p>

<p>Simple question: why are you asking a forum comprised mainly of high school candidates to “chance” you on admission. The truth is that people here are not in the position to do so. Apply, do your best, and see what happens. Take advice with a grain of salt. And speak to actual students at the universities you want to attend. You will be surprised to see how their assessments will vary from those of people on these forums.</p>

<p>I’d say that you have a more than 50 % chance at the colleges you are applying to, parly due to the fact that you have great EC’s but seriously, you are battling kids from Nigeria and Africa, who may not be as competitive as you, but they have the benefit of being huge URM’s.
However, there are only so many kids applying from there, so I’d say you have a failry moderate to lower high chance.

<p>Hassan has said that you have six times more likelihood of other applicants to Princeton and Stanford given their statistical rates of ~8%.</p>

<p>This is the reason why asking HS students to “chance you” is like asking a blind person to tell you how your new haircut looks.</p>

<p>BTW just try to get into a couple of good summer programs (SST, Yale summer stuff or JHU)
In addition, try to get a couple of good internships under your belt.</p>

<p>Lastly, if you want to volunteer, go somewhere outside (Other countries) but make sure you have passion to make that country better. Don’t just go to mongolia and then put it on Admissions essay… nnnnooooooo. Absolutely not. Besides this, you have a chance-everyone has 1. it is what you make of that chance that matters. Do what you love!</p>
