I’m a Texas Resident and high school senior. I applied in November.
GPA: 3.9 weighted
ACT: 31
AP Classes: European History, US History, Language and Composition, Literature, Calc AB, Chemistry, Psychology, Comp Gov
Course Load: My courses are consistently at an AP or Pre-AP level, and have been increasing in difficulty every year.
I heard that the Jackson school is much more difficult than other programs at UT to get into. Is this true?
I’ve heard the opposite, that it has one of the highest acceptance rates in the university. The average GPA at UT Austin is 3.71, and yours is above that. However, Jackson does have some specific requirements. They require that you take math and science classes every year, so you must ensure that you have lots of those on your high school transcript. Also, your ACT math score must be above 26. What are your ECs? And your personal background? Universities don’t accept people solely based on their grades.
I’ve been in varsity athletics for 4 years and am a captain, and also I’m in NHS and a few other academic and volunteer clubs. My act math is 27, so I just barely got that! I’ve taken high level science and math courses all 4 years as well. While I don’t have the most unique personal background, I spent months on my essays and am really confident in them, so hopefully that will help (I was sure to right about how I loved the outdoors).
My main concern is my class rank. I’m only top 30%. However, I go to one of the most competitive high schools in the state, and according to my counselors UT considers that. Also, I know people with lower ranks who have gotten it, so hopefully that means something.
That’s a relief about it having a high acceptance rate. May I ask where you’ve gotten your sources? I’ve had some trouble finding reliable ones
