LACs:
Carleton College
Pomona College
Occidental College

Universities:
USC
UChicago
Tulane
Dartmouth
Georgetown
Emory

Thanks!

if you need someone to read an essay, i’d be happy to do it. just so you know, i’m also a rising senior. (but i am a great editor, an another set of eyes can only help!)

Thanks! Anyone else?

Your GPA seems a tad low but the rank could really help you. Your ACT is fine… are you going to take the SAT I? The subject tests aren’t stellar. To me, it looks like the biggest problem is your EC’s. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of focus. Universities on the level of UChicago and Dartmouth seem like a high reach. I think you would have better luck at some of the LAC’s if you have a strong essay and strong recommendations.

chance back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1357093-please-chance-some-lacs.html</a></p>

just kidding, looks like you’ve already chanced me! thanks!

I guess I just do what interests me. I did take the SAT, and my scores were lower than my ACT, so I was like, “Whateva, I do what I want.” I guess Dartmouth is my you-miss-100%-of-the-shots-you-don’t-take school.

Can I get a few more responses please?

bump bump bump bump.

LACs - I’m not too familiar with the majority of those schools, but Occidental, Oberlin, Macalester, and Colorado seem like matches.
Universities - I think you definitely could get into USC, Tulane, and Emory. All the other ones are reaches, but hey, they’re reaches for pretty much everyone!

Carleton College: reach
Pomona College: match
Occidental College: match
Grinnell College: match
Colorado College: match
Oberlin College: match
Macalester College
Pitzer College: never even heard of
Beloit College: safety
Rhodes College: match
USC: high match
UChicago: reach
Tulane: low match
Dartmouth: high reach
Georgetown: reach
Emory: reach

The biggest thing holding you back is your GPA and SAT II scores. However, your ECs and course load are very solid.

Good luck

I probably shouldn’t even send my SAT Subjects. I’m just morally opposed to standardized tests (and the idea of test preparation) and don’t want to bother studying for something so asinine. Most schools don’t even require them.

I would say you have a pretty good chance at all the LACs, except Pomona and maybe Carleton are a tiny bit reachy.

ACT is eh. You should look at possibly raising it a little bit, but it should be lower on your priority list than SAT IIs. You really need to raise your SAT IIs (770+ to make up for the not so stellar GPA)

Your GPA itself isn’t that big of a problem since you have an upwards trend. The only grade that is concerning is the Science Research grade. It doesn’t matter if it was an elective, it looks bad. If you get rejected, this will be why (most likely at least).

As for ECs, I can see a gradual progression of maturity. You are becoming more responsible and more adult like with your time management. I might write an essay on how you just had to focus on your grades and your growing responsibility.

I would stick with applying undecided because you don’t really have a theme to your application.

I would classify the colleges as follows

Carleton College: ?
Pomona College: SUPER HIGH REACH reach (this will be the hardest to get into)
Occidental College: match/high safety
Grinnell College: ?
Colorado College: ?
Oberlin College: ?
Macalester College ?
Pitzer College: match
Beloit College: ?
Rhodes College: ?
USC: high match
UChicago: reach
Tulane: low match
Dartmouth: high reach (Almost as high as Pomona, but not quite)
Georgetown: reach
Emory: reach

Still, it’s always good to see someone get better over time and colleges will definitely take that into account!

Good luck!
Chance me back?

Btw if you are morally opposed to standardized testing, like I am, you should take a close look at Pitzer. If you have over a 3.5 GPA or if you’re in top 10% then you don’t have to send SAT/ACT. Also they have a lot of alternatives including course work from the classes you take at school!
[Frequently Asked Questions - Admission - Pitzer College](http://www.pitzer.edu/admission/faqs.asp)

Im not really sure about LACs as i’m only looking at universities but as for Universities most of the ones you listed seem as reaches. I think you have a shot at USC, i think you’ll probably get into tulane, and possibly Emory(low reach) but the others seem as reaches to me. Good luck!

chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1358086-am-i-doomed.html</a></p>

not sure about LAC, however, for universities, USC, Tulane, and Emory seem like matches. UChicago and Georgetown are probably small reaches, then dartmouth is a larger reach.

“eh?” I would never retake the ACT, if a 33 isn’t good enough, then **** that school. And I highly doubt that my research grade will be the deciding factor… Some schools (Oberlin) don’t count those kinds of courses. And LOL at telling me to look at Pitzer when it’s on my list of schools.

I’m probably not gonna apply to any of those universities anyways, except maybe UChicago.

BTW, do I stand a chance at either Vassar or Hamilton? I’m considering adding a few East Coast LACs…

… bump.

Carleton College- high match
Pomona College- slight reach
Occidental College- match
Grinnell College- match
Colorado College- match
Oberlin College- high match
Macalester College- match
Pitzer College- don’t know
Beloit College- safety
Rhodes College- safety
USC- safety
UChicago- reach
Tulane- high match
Dartmouth- reach
Georgetown- slight reach
Emory- high match

Great EC’s, leadership will make you stand out. If you apply early to one of your high match/low reach schools, it is very likely you will be accepted
