My schools: Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, MIT, U Penn, Columbia, Stanford, Caltech, Middlebury, Washington and Lee (Johnson Scholarship), Williams, Brown, Wellesley, Swarthmore

Anybody? I’d be willing to reciprocate.

bumpppppppppppp

I’d really appreciate the input:)

good chance at all…

really with that rank, and test scores you are already set at some of them.

the ECs help with the insanely tough schools.

With all of the schools you listed, it’s always a gamble; I think you have a pretty solid chance into getting into at least a few of them. While your SAT scores could use some improvement, you have a lot of valuable ECs, including a lot of experience helping others (which is always a leg up for these LACs). I know for a fact that even MIT accepts kids with less than perfect scores, though, so never despair.

Your essays will still be key, so make sure you put all you can into them.

Thanks! Does anybody have any specific options about any schools (reach, match, safety)?

bump bump bump bump buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuump

I wanted to add that I am a legacy at Stanford and I am applying for financial aid, if that makes any difference.

bump bump bump

You have an awesome profile and will definitely have a number of excellent choices come April. Academically and personally there is little to no room for improvement in what I see. Congratulations on your accomplishments and best of luck!

(I’m also a Questbridge Finalist haha, congrats on that as well!)

Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, MIT, U Penn, Columbia, and Stanford would be reaches for anyone. Given your accumulation of community service and extracurricular activities you probably have a pretty good chance at Caltech, Middlebury,Williams, Brown, Wellesley, and Swarthmore.

You guys have given me such a great relief! I was having a little freak-out that I wouldn’t get anywhere. i just hate this waiting game:(

malenonfare, congrats on QuestBridge! Which partner schools are you applying to?

I’m applying to Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Penn, Notre Dame (accepted EA), Brown, Columbia, and Swarthmore.

My schools:
Princeton
Yale
Dartmouth
MIT
U Penn
Columbia
Caltech
^ I wouldn’t bother to apply to these.

Middlebury, Washington and Lee (Johnson Scholarship), Williams, Brown, Wellesley, Swarthmore, Stanford
Much more reasonable. Looking at your stats and ECs, they don’t show any focus and are not at all impressive. Legacy at Stanford will help you through, just maybe.

Your chances at Caltech would benefit from a higher SAT I score as Caltech is kind of numbers-driven.

However, since your extracurriculars don’t appear to be focused on the sciences, I can’t understand why you’re applying to Caltech and MIT at all. Am I correct in assuming that you want to major in biology or biomedical engineering? Your SAT IIs are solid, but your ECs may not be what MIT and Caltech are looking for.

Your GPA, rank, and course load are impressive. However, in order to have a good shot at most of your schools, you’ll have to make sure your essays are really distinctive.

I think Wellesley and Washington and Lee are your best bets. I don’t know about that scholarship, though.

Middlebury and Williams are very hard to get into, but I think you have a chance there too.

As for the rest, the Questbridge part is awesome. I’m not familiar with the program, but as far as I know, it really helps most people a lot. So that may tip the scales in your favor at some of your reaches. BUT they’re just that–reaches for everyone. Stanford looks slightly less unlikely than the rest, however, because of the added boost of your legacy status.

Overall, I can’t make any predictions, but I think you should maybe take a couple of reaches out of your list and apply to another match school, for your own peace of mind.

If you manage to bring up your SAT score a little, that would be awesome.

(I think this sounds more critical than I intended. I do think you’re a good candidate! The QB thing, coupled with your grades, would get you a foot in the door anywhere. The thing is, most people who get into Princeton, Columbia, and the like have really outstanding ECs, and yours are just very good. Try to counter that with awesome essays!)

Um, and look at my thread please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1058046-id-appreciate-your-input.html

Thanks, Ghostt! What do you think some good matches are? As you know, I only have a couple days to apply. Also, I know it’s too late, but what do you consider “outsanding EC’s”?

bumppppppp

Well, by outstanding ECs I mean something that no other person has, or a combination of activities that no other person has, and of course demonstrated excellence.

For example, I know a girl who’s going to Harvard who won a very prestigious award for a play she’d written–but that award wasn’t for high schoolers, it was for professional playwrights! Her plays were being staged in real theaters where strangers paid money to see them when she was in, like, 10th grade.

That’s what I mean when I say that you really have to be outstanding. But it’s too late to worry about that now. Just make sure your essays sound genuine and don’t sweat it. Regular people get in too.

I think some liberal arts colleges with acceptance rates around 30% would be low matches for you. Maybe try Macalester? It’s an awesome college with a high acceptance rate, and would be an excellent choice.

(However, I don’t know how long filling out the Mac application would take.)

Maybe look at some schools with later deadlines? That way you’d have more time to apply.

Is the list of schools that you included on this thread your entire list? Or do you have a safety or two?
