Thank you to anyone who can help!

that unfortunately won’t make for a stand-out rec, only an average one, since SO MANY students seriously applying to top colleges work hard

also, avg. essays def. won’t help

haha yeah, I might be over-exaggerating when I say they’re average – I did work with a college essay coach whose students always attend top tier institutions so when I say average I mean that they will get the job done.

good point on recs thou

I suspect you will have options in March if you don’t get into Williams. You are strong academically and there are a number of things that could make you interesting to any school. It’s impossible for anyone to guess, though, where exactly that will happen.

I think you should have some options, you may want to consider if there is anywhere you would want to switch to ED2 in case Williams doesn’t accept you. Of course most schools don’t outright deny ED candidates and put you in the RD round. In which case you still get another look.

That you are a US- citizen is helpful. That you aren’t a resident of any state isn’t relevant since you are applying to privates. Well except UMASS - why UMASS vs. say a William & Mary which is more in line with the rest of your list other than the geography (but you have American).

With American, make sure you demonstrate interest - and it’ll be a given. You’ll certainly have UMASS and AU - the rest are tough - but next a Colby, etc. I do agree your ED is possible.

Good luck.

That’s a very reachy list. American seems like an outlier. U Mass is probably a safety if you are instate.

If you love LACs, consider some more LAC match/safeties. Maybe Muhlenberg, Dickinson or Union? Not true safeties, but low matches.

I see you have Wellesley. Consider Bryn Mawr and Smith, also not safeties, but a bit less selective than Wellesley. Consider some of the other NESCAC schools. Mostly reaches, but worth looking at.

Because your family wants to pay the $70,000 a year plus?

Or because you think this will affect your admission chances?

Congratulations!

Your GPA, class rank, SAT score, national merit semi-finalist status all make you very competitive at any of your choices.

Of course, with rejection rates >80%, there might only be 1 spot for every 5 high-achieving students who apply - so nothing is guaranteed.

Hopefully you meant the exact opposite:
You were “selling yourself short” or are “being overly modest”, by calling them only “average”.

If you’re just being modest, then there’s no need to avoid being factual on this platform.
But, yes, if they truly are just “average” then instead striving for one you feel “great” about, could be important.
