Hooks: URM with high SATs, not from New England, no one from my school has applied (at least not in the last 5 years) to Wesleyan

State (if domestic applicant): North Carolina
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: Male
Income: ~$150k

Weaknesses: GPA obviously. I’ve had a lot of social issues with moving between states and such. I know colleges don’t accept that as a valid excuse, but that’s the truth.

Essays: Assume they will be really good. (I’ve already begun working on them)

Reflection: Obviously my GPA is low for Wesleyan, but I feel that I can partially balance it out with my other strong attributes (SATs, ECs, essays, hooks) since Wesleyan so heavily promotes ‘holistic’ and diverse admissions. I will be applying ED1 2015

Your math SAT could use some improvement – could you study up and try once more for a better superscore? That can help offset a weak GPA, which you can’t do too much about given that you have only this semester to raise it before ED applications go in next fall. The SAT writing score doesn’t count for much, so don’t assume that your 760/800 combo is what they are looking at. I’d say Wes and Middlebury are reaches, then Trinity, Connecticut, and Hamilton are matches.

@intparent Thank you. I definitely plan to take the SAT in March to try and break 700 on Math.

bump and I forgot to add Bates to the list as well

Try to raise your GPA by the end of this year and you’ll definitely have a higher chance. Like the first person said, try to raise your math SAT score and you’ll have a good chance of getting in. Amazing extracurriculars! I would say match for Trinity, Hamilton, Connecticut, and Wesleyan. Low reach for Middlebury.

Wesleyan (Top choice)-High Match
Trinity-Safety
Hamilton-High Match/Match
Connecticut College-Low Match
Middlebury-Low Reach/High Match
