I attended M&TSI if that matters.
Overall my academics are good enough but my leadership is probably a bit light for a program like M&T so I don’t know if one will outweigh the other. My EC’s are a little top heavy too. I go to a boarding school so it is a little tougher to get involved in a ton of stuff outside of school too.
your ECs are very good for m&t, wharton and any other program and school at Penn. you ll do just fine. your academics are obv very strong. you got an excellent chance. wharton is a business school that values quantitative skills a lot and u can def show that u have these thru ur curriculum and extracurriculars. also ur ecs and curriculum will convince admissions officials you are able to deal with the rigor of Penn SEAS. that said it would be ideal to have another more leadership-oriented role, but given what you already have, it is not gonna rly be an issue imo. u are in very good form. good luck!!
@schakrab Yes, your math is clearly strong, which Wharton appreciates. As for @RandomScreen’s comment, however, M&T students are more than just strong math students: they need to demonstrate extremely strong leadership skills in their extracurriculars. Your EC’s are good, but not amazing. That being said, I think with amazing essays (especially the M&T program specific essays) that exemplify your leadership skills you have a very competitive application.
I agree, I thought my essays were pretty good. I talked about my experience there over the summer and company visits showing me the importance of combining business and tech and my own goals. I also talked more about the quiz bowl for the leadership essay
yeah that’s what I think too. Imo ED you should apply to a reach that you would absolutely want to go to. So in that way it was a perfect choice for me and hopefully I still get admitted to engineering so I can still go to Penn if I want.
For M&T, there are many students with the same or better stats. Remember there are many students with perfect GPA, SAT and ACT scores these days and EC often becomes a differentiator.
@rocky789 The EC is pretty good, especially in math (I’m estimating the OP got a 5 or 7 on AIME), which is what Wharton cares about (not sure about M&T, though they’ll love it too).
Your stats are really solid – very impressive. At this point, students applying to M&T all have very similar stats that you have. So, you need to make sure that you stand out from the rest of the (highly competitive) applicant pool. Make sure your Penn specific supplement is very solid for Wharton & Eng. Also, make sure your Common App essay is very strong, too.
Here’s an essay example from someone who was accepted into M&T at Penn!
