Hokay, I'm not really sure how this works, but these are my stats...

4.0 unweighted GPA (my school doesn't do weighted so I have no idea what that is).
2160 SAT, 760 CR, 720 M, 680 W.
33 ACT composite, 34 R, 34 E, 34 S, 31 M, 8 W.
A few AP/honors classes, but not a ton. I have had a full schedule every year and I've taken every core subject + Spanish all four years (don't know if that makes a difference, I don't really know what kind of detail to add).
My EC's suck: NHS, Link crew, Spanish NHS, Tutoring Senior year, and a few community service clubs I've put some time into.
Also I won a Scholastic Art Award Gold Key my junior year, don't know if that means anything.

So... yeah? I'd appreciate any comment/advice/guess.

I think you look like a competitive applicant at both schools. Take a look at the Common Data Set for each school (google it). The academic stats should give you a feel for your chances. Carleton is somewhat more selective than Macalester.

Since you seem to like the midwestern LACs, why not add Oberlin and Grinnell to your list? (Grinnell doesn’t look at the writing score and offers merit aid). The towns of Northfield, Oberlin and Grinnell are all small college towns within an easy drive of a city - that most students don’t bother visiting very often because there’s a lot to do on campus.

And if art is a big deal for you, are you planning to submit a portfolio? Doing art is a time-consuming EC and it certainly counts as much as any other EC, so don’t undersell yourself. The award is just further validation that you take your art seriously.

Thanks guys! As for the art thing, it’s not as much of an EC for me because I took art up through junior year and dropped it because, well, I kind of don’t like it at all. (I want to go into science - major in Bio and minor in Spanish, and probably the only art classes I’d take were ones where I was forced)
