Chance me for Macaulay @ Brooklyn?

Chances are I’m going to go to Brooklyn, Macaulay or not, as it’s only a fifteen minute bike ride for me up Ocean Parkway. I would love to be accepted into Macaulay though.

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 630 CR, 620 M, 620 W (1870 composite, 1250 CR+M)*
SAT II: Spanish w/o Listening (670), World History (670), Biology M (640)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.675
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Unknown until next year
AP (place score in parenthesis): World (4), US (4), Spanish Language (4), English Language (3), five more will be taken next year for a total of 9
Senior Year Course Load: AP Biology, AP Microecon, AP US Govt, AP Computer Science, AP Art History (in place of an elective), English

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Computer Programming Club (Founder and President), Technology Service Club (President), Arista/Archon (Candidate for President of Archon, awaiting results), Yearbook Staff (Junior Photography Leader), Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Guitar Club, Peer Tutor (English and History)
Job/Work Experience: I’m an intern at a city council member’s office (handling constituent cases, doing social media and website work, and filmmaking), Camp Counselor and Camp Equipment Manager

My essays will be about filmmaking (question #2) and I have yet to decide what to do for my other one at the moment.

*Note about SAT: I got a 201 on my PSAT and then went in cold for the actual test because I’m arrogant and stupid. I plan on retaking it in October and I’ll prepare like my life depended on it. I’ll also take the ACT in September and October.

I’m hoping that my extracurriculars and government work will make up for so-so numbers.

If anyone could give me some insight into my chances, that would be great.

Can anyone offer their thoughts?

@neobliviscaris Sure!

For starters, your GPA is a little low for MHC. The average GPA among admitted students was 94 (UW) this past year, so you’ll want to get it up to the GPA equivalent of that (a 3.68 is like a 91.5, right?).

Your self-reported SAT score is low – the minimum score you need to apply is a 1250 CR+M, while the 1350-1400 range is best. If you got a 201 PSAT, I’m confident you can make it there easily, so best of luck but keep in mind the important of the score – like it or not.

Your ECs look great and are big at Macaulay. Congrats!

Overall, General Admissions at Brooklyn is a safety – you only need a 1000 SAT and 81 average. Macaulay will be a match for you with a little work to bring that SAT score up. Best of luck!!

Brooklyn, definitely.
Macaulay, maybe.
Higher SAT and GPA will give you a better shot.
Great ECs, I’m jealous

You can do this, good luck!
