Please tell me if it's a target, low reach, high reach, etc. If you have any info about the business school please let me know. Also, let me know if there is anything I can do to improve my chances. Thanks!

Your EC’s are really good, but your GPA and test scores are iffy. Do you have any AP scores or are you planning to take the SAT?

Also, the fact that you’re a white male doesn’t really help. (Harsh, I know – but it’s the truth.) Marshall is probably the most competitive school within USC; you should be shooting for 34-36 ACT / 2200 SAT with comparable AP scores and GPA at the very least.

You’re only a junior, though. You still have time. As of now though, it’s most certainly a hard reach. USC likes diversity, and right now, you don’t really stand out as an Accounting applicant.

I take the AP tests in May and I’m debating whether or not I should take some SAT Subject Tests. Thank you for your input!

I was told, in person, by the Dean of Marshall to get a 32 or 33 on the ACT to be a good candidate. so a 34 would be good, but you could get in even with a 30.

zelda, that is horrible advice. Marshall is not THAT selective! you just rattled off what may be true only for Wharton as far as b schools go.
i’d say you are looking at SC as a target school.

I don’t know if you’re a USC student or alum – but it is my understanding USC OKs you first and then defer your admissions decision to the individual school you applied to (for those students not applying to LAS). He’s iffy on both fronts – he could make it, but he very well could not for having generic stats.

I’m just being honest! And yes, Marshall is pretty selective.

i’m actually neither- I applied to SC this year. yet it seems as if i know more about your school than you do
3.9 is iffy?? please. there’s no way you’re convincing me of that especially when the student took 8 AP’s.
as far as test scores go, i agree that those could be better, but he isn’t bad off there either. average score on a 1600 scale is 1400-his is a 1420! (i used ACTs converter)

from my accounts, marshall is easily a target school

I got into Marshall with a 2250 and a 3.74 - hope that means something to you.
Oh, and I took 7 APs (around the same # as you have).

You’re good to go. ECs look fantastic.

take subject tests for sure. improve your test scores and you should have a good chance!

An unweighted 3.9 out of 4.0 is “iffy”!?! That’s too funny. What is that, 2 "A-"s and the rest straight "A"s?

Your stats are fine. Sure a higher ACT would help, but as it stands right now it’s a solid score. In your ECs, I don’t see any leadership positions. USC likes to see those, as well as community service. Pick your favorite group and run for office, then contribute to making the group better. That experience can be something you write about or discuss in your application.

Senior year is a big year in terms of leadership for me, hopefully everything pans out.

yeah, an unweighted 3.9 is incredible. take the sat 2’s for sure. try to improve your act to a 33 or so, but you look like youll get in!
