-National Merit Commended Student

haha I am a USC wannabe too. Your grades are a bit on the low end but your ECs/jobs are outstanding and you have legacy status...I guess that lets you into USC definitely....but Marshall is one of the hardest schools to get into as a direct admit...my frds were advising me from last year not to apply direct and just apply undecided then once you're in transfer...since majority of students with great IB scores got rejected from Marshall, but 1900 SATs got my other frds in...but that's just a story..lolz..don't base it on a story.

You could stand a chance...because of your legacy and ECs/Jobs...but my advice is apply undecided...you'll be in for sure...because if you're rejected from Marshall..you'll have to reapply next year if you really wanna go to USC.

ok that's a plus! lolz

thanks for the words lynn! i see what you mean. i already sent in my app for marshall haha =P too late. wish me luck! gd luck to you too!

any more chances! =]

Not sure about your chances because you are on the edge- your only weakness is your GPA but your upward trend will help. But about legacy and undeclared vs. business major:

About legacy- they say it is "considered" but after my legacy daughter was not admitted (I went there as well as my two sons), I asked admissions about legacy. The person I talked to told me straight out that legacy DOES NOT help in admissions. However, they give one consolation to legacies: if you are not admitted, you will be given an opportunity to meet with an USC advisor to get special guidance on how to transfer in later.

Don't worry about applying undeclared vs. business major. When applying to Marshall. general admissions will evaluate you first. If they admit you, you will at least be offered admission to CLAS which includes undeclareds. Then, Marshall will evaluate you for admission to Marshall. If you are rejected from Marshall, you will still be offered admission to CLAS.

Thanks a lot for the insight on the undecl vs. marshall. So if I'm admitted into USC I get in to CLAS no matter what?

hey man, you sound like me. Except your CR is probably higher than mine.

I'd have to say you're a match, although that GPA is a bit lower. USC's not a safety for anyone, except for those tough guys with 2300's and 4.9's with NYU, USC, and Tufts as backups.

which school do you go to? didja get 1st place from acamis or something else..

That is correct, if you get in to USC, you are admitted to CLAS unless your first choice school accepts you as well (like Viterbi, Annenberg, Marshall.)

you attend an international school too? nah i'm no longer playing in acamis. you an intl too?

Thanks cc411. That makes me feel a lot better. I'd love to attend USC either way. However, the Marshall program really appeals to me. Do they just send you a letter telling you you got into CLAS but not Marshall? How do you know this?

i didn't know that...stupid friends....they said that!!!!!!!!

If you get accepted to CLAS, you will get the big acceptance packet like everyone else sometime in March/April. I don't know what the part looks like with reference to rejection to Marshall, if that is the case.

niiiice. when is the earliest anyone's heard from USC about decisions?

End of January

Last year, those admitted who were also offered merit scholarships (and interviews for scholarships) starting hearing at the end of January.

Those admitted who did not receive scholarships starting hearing in the first week of March through the first week of April.

Rejections come at the very end and went out the first week of April.

oh god.. wow i wish i could hear at the end of january. the anxiety of waiting is killing me. thanks everybody for the chancing and information. i've learnt a lot about the USC process.

so basically i'm competing with everyone in my school applying to USC? wow.

if you get offered a scholarship you're guaranteed in yeah?

They'll only give you a scholarship after they accept you i guess, haha.

Yeah I go to tiny xiamen international school, you?
div. 2 for acamis..school size of 300 competiting with schools of 600-1800 kids hahaha.

This is the GENERAL mailing of their letters in order:
-Acceptances for those who will receive merit scholarships.
-Letters/invitations for merit scholarship interviews.
-Letters for other merit scholarships.
-Acceptances for all others.
-Rejections :(

Bump Bump Bump Bump Bump Bump Bump :)
