Hi everyone, I'm an incoming senior at a public high school in the northwest Chicago suburbs. My stats are as follows:

Gpa: 4.0 unweighted
Class rank: Either top 1% to 2% (Last terms grades aren't in the ranking system yet)
Act: 31 composite (32 English, 36 Math, 25 Reading, 31 Science)
APs: AP Calculus AB (5) AP Computer Science A (4)
Senior Course load: Calculus 2 at local community college, AP Physics B, AP Psychology, Honors English, Honors Spanish 4, Accounting 1 (needed to fulfill graduation requirement)
Intended major: either mechanical or aerospace engineering
State of residence: Illinois
Extracurriculars: Varsity Baseball two years, President of 3 religious youth organizations, attended a selective leadership training course for athletics at my school, ran a community event website and Facebook page
Ethnicity: White

My real question is do you think that I have a good shot at being accepted to mechanical or aerospace engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. I appreciate all responses. If you need more information to chance me please ask.

If you have any advice on how to make myself a better applicant please share that wisdom as well. Thanks!

If only you lived in Texas…

Write good essays and improve your SAT/ACT scores. Show why you would be a great addition to the class of 2019.

If you lived in texas you would be auto admitted lol. Your stats are really good though, why not try for UIUC? it is instate for you and also a very good engineering school

I do understand that uiuc is a great school and as such I am looking into it seriously. It stinks that texas schools are so hard for out of state students though.

Because of your score and rank ut austin is a high match for you.
But why pay that oos tuition when juice is a great public school. I know austin is an awesome city and ut is a great school but is the cost worth it? If so then apply kill those essays and you are in. Also apply august first engineering fills up fast and it’s first come first serve. You will be accepted.oos students with lower stats were accepted. Just choice undecided as your second major just in case. Pm me for any questions. I hope you get in

4.0 plus top 1-2% and 31 act!!!
You’re in man. It would be a miracle if you were rejected honestly

Actually, OP in question likely has no need to improve his scores, since UT only takes the English and Math components of the ACT.

I am glad that you’re considering both UT Austin and UIUC, though I second that UIUC will likely end up being the better financial decision.
