UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UC Davis, UCI, Cal Poly SLO
Carleton, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Rice, Stanford, Vanderbilt, University of Michigan, University of Minnesota Twin Cities

I know it's a lot of colleges and I'm trying to narrow it down to 15 or less.

You have a very high chance of admission at: UCSD, UCD, UCI, CALPOLY, UMinneosta

You have a good shot at : Carleton, Cornell, UMichigan, UCLA

You have a decent shot at :UCBerkeley, Rice, JHUEngineering

The rest are reach/low reach shots(Or I just dont know the school well enough) but you should be a competitive applicant for sure.

You have nothing that really relates to your major (No Extra Curricular’s or physics classes)
The UC’s, state schools are hit or miss, and reaches for the rest. Although being a girl will help - especially for engineering (not to be taken the wrong way)

I took IB Physics SL as a junior but I didn’t take the IB test or SAT subject test.
Do you think I have a better chance at biomedical engineering? I want to design prosthetics which is why I chose mechanical but I think biomedical would be more interesting.

You can always double major! or Do mechanical minor or vice versa.

Always do something which you think will be fun or exciting cause then work will be play  BiomedEngineering is gaining a lot of surface and some even go to Med School after.

Some of the schools listed are “lottery” schools. Hard to chance. In other words, you have about the same 10% shot as the many other highly qualified applicants.

How did you score a 5 on calculus bc and then get a 740 on math 2? Did you have to take a bunch of subject tests or something that day? Also class rank?

I took the Math Level 2 subject test as a sophomore and Calc BC as a junior, so maybe that’s why. And the curve for Calc BC is really high so about half the scores are 5’s

My class rank is in the top 10%. My school doesn’t do individual rankings

Can I get another opinion?

Got any hooks?
What are your essays about? Are they sob stories about how you over came the death of a hamster, or are they about some wacky experience?
You have decent stats, it might depend on your school, are they ranked highly?

My high school is ranked in the top 500 in the country by Newsweek (top 3%)

My UC essays are about 1) cross country and how my experience has made me want to develop prosthetics and artificial limbs for disabled people so that they can experience the same feeling I get when I finish a race, and 2) a trip my school orchestra went on to the state music convention to perform and my passion for music, specifically as a member in orchestra

Your from where again? Ca?

yes, I’m from CA

Whats your schools api score

UC Berkeley, UCLA: reach
UCSD, UC Davis: high match
UCI: match Cal Poly SLO: safety
Carleton, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Rice, Stanford, Vanderbilt - these are all reaches. Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Duke, Cornell are extreme reaches. Sorry to tell you that. As you don’t have much experience or ECs in engineering, that will be a problem. Try to engage in some projects. That will work.
University of Michigan, University of Minnesota Twin Cities: matches
