Chance me for medium-tier UC's

Hello, please honestly state my chances of getting into each UC. Also, I'm not sure what "reach, match, high match, safety" etc exactly means in percentages(although I have a guess).

Overall I think I have decent SATs, few extracurriculars, decent gpa (3.9), few challenging courses up til senior year, and only an average personal essay. I honestly don't think its great at all.

I'm applying to
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Santa Barbara
UC Riverside
UC San Diego

Major: Biological Sciences

Sat 1: 630 (critical reading) 800 (Math) 630 (writing) | 2060 total
No Sat 2, No ACT
41 hours of working of volunteering at an animal shelter
Part of the Ocean Protection Club
Acad GPA (10-12) 3.9 | Junior year was 4.0

Yeah...thats all I got. What are my chances, and how will a not-so-great personal essay affect me? It lacks concrete evidence and does mostly "telling" instead of "showing" but personally I like it. However I'm really not sure if UC's will. I'm hoping that I will get into UC Davis.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

All of them are matches. I’d be surprised if any of those (except maybe San Diego) reject you…

i agree u may as well apply to UCLA and UCB too

But shouldn’t a lack of extra-curriculars and a not-so-great essay dramatically affect my chances? I don’t see me having a chance at ucla and ucb at all.

Not to mention that my SAT scores are terribly lopsided and my Reading/Writing Scores are on the low side.

Is your 3.9 your UC GPA or your unweighted GPA?
Your lack of ECs might be a problem…but there’s nothing you can do about it now.
If you don’t think your essay is great, you can still revise it today.
And why not apply to UCLA or UC Berkeley? There is no downside, unless the application fee puts a financial strain on your family.

Explanation of rating system (at least the way I’ve been doing it):
safety=you’ll pretty much definitely get in, though you’ll probably be one of the biggest fish in that university’s pond
match=you’ll probably get in, in terms of academic performance you’re in the middle of pack
high match=the College Confidential person thinks you’ll get in, but isn’t totally sure
low reach=still possible that you’ll get in, but thinks you very well might be rejected
reach=you probably won’t get in, but it’s worth a try and you just might get in
out of reach=the College Confidential person thinks you will be definitely rejected and doesn’t think you should waste your money applying

UC Davis: high match
UC Irvine: match
UC Santa Barbara: match
UC Riverside: Safety
UC San Diego: low reach (because of the ECs)
UCLA and Berkeley: reach

Thats a very insightful post, thank you basketweaver. 3.9 is my weighted GPA, and I think my counselor said its my UC GPA.
