Chance me for Merit Aid Scholarships

A bit about me: I immigrated to the US when I was 6. My family has been nomadic and we moved around the country a lot. In high school, I moved across the country and just finished my junior year at my new school. My family does not qualify for need-based aid.

Value is a very important factor, so I really hope I can get significant merit aid scholarships. I am really looking into Wake Forest University, University of Richmond, Duke, Emory, and Davidson.

Stats:

GPA: 5.12 (Out of 5.25. Also, my GPA is very high because the transcript from my current school includes only my junior classes, the year I moved to this school). They weren’t able to combine the GPA with my old school for some reason.

Ranking: I would have been most likely valedictorian but since I moved to my current school this past year, I am not eligible. I would have been valedictorian at my old school as well.

ACT: 35 highest composite (35 R, 35 M, 35 E, 36 S) 36 superscore (36 R, 35 M, 35 E, 36 S)

SAT II: 800 on Chemistry, 800 on Math 2, 780 on Physics

AP Scores: AP Physics 1 (4), AP Calculus AB (5), AP European History (4), AP Physics 2 (5), AP Psychology (5), AP Chemistry (5), AP Lang (5), AP CSP (5), APUSH (5), AP Calculus BC (5), AP Environmental Science (self-studied) (5).

Senior courses: AP Lit, AP Spanish, AP Stats, AP CSA, AP Biology, AP Macroeconomics

Self-studying AP Physics Mech/E&M

Awards:

National AP Scholar- This award is given mostly to seniors, but by taking enough APs by the end of my junior year and scoring well on them, I was able to include this on my common app

National Merit Commended Student

Gold Medal in National Spanish Examinations

ECs:

Have played chess competitively as part of the USCF; ranked in the top 15 percentile of players. Also president of my chess club in both schools, have led and organized interscholastic competitions with other schools.

Varsity Track & Field. Competed at the state championships in the long jump event. Also do sprints. Had an article written under the sports section in my local newspaper.

Worked with my AP Chem teacher to develop a software for Virtual Reality. I have always enjoyed working with technology, and the purpose of the project was to create a method of easily understanding the 3D structures of substances through animations in VR. I helped developed animations for the software along with an alumni and a few peers.

Environmental Steward: Involved in community sustainability efforts and awareness; promoting composting and efficient recycling. I’m also an officer on my school’s environmental club and helped propose ideas to further integrate composting into our school.

Currently interning at a pathology lab. Involved with human pathological sample collection and the workings of a pathology lab.

Was part of various academic competitions: Science/Math/Environmental Sc. knowledge competitions; 2nd in regions for he South Puget Sound Envirothon (10th grade) ; 2nd in WA State Knowledge Bowl (10th grade). NC “Twelve” Competition (3rd in state)

Volunteered in many different organizations: I had the most hours at a Senior assisted living in WA, hospital in NC, humane society in NC.

Played the clarinet for my school band, competed at state ensembles. Unfortunately could not continue in 11th grade due to my new school not having a band.

Based on these stats, how likely is it that I can receive significant merit aid from universities? Especially the ones I am interested in?

Your resumé is impressive, but given how competitive merit scholarships are at the schools you mentioned, I’d also consider slightly less selective schools such as Rhodes, Sewanee, Elon, Centre, etc. where you will be a stronger candidate.
