I am a 2nd semester freshman at UW Milwaukee. 15 credits completed and 16 in progress. I got a 3.6 GPA first semester and hoping to get a 3.9-4.0 second. I had a 3.0 GPA in high school and an 18,21,22 ACT. They all show up on my transcript and I’ve tried to get them off but the school couldn’t get them off. I was wondering if I would be able to transfer to the UMN TC College of Liberal arts for an Economics major and then do an internal transfer for the Carlson School of Management.
Thanks
That’s a very reasonable strategy to get into Carlson. I wouldn’t expect (if I were you) to be able to transfer into Carlson until you put in a full year here at the U. After 60 credits (junior), Carlson doesn’t consider ACT scores for transfers, which honestly, will sink you before then.
I’m not as familiar with transfer situations, but your GPA looks good (esp if you pull a 3.9 2nd semester). Based on nothing more than a hunch, I’ll put you at 85% transfer into CLA.
Getting from CLA into Carlson is not a done deal. Carlson looks at Volunteer and Leadership EC’s, even for transfers. If you don’t have that on your record, do so now, and plan on doing so when you transfer into CLA. Take a look at http://carlsonschool.umn.edu/degrees/undergraduate/admissions/transfer-students for courses and other expectations. You absolutely need to get the GPA up, and keep it up (average is 3.76).
You’ve got the right strategy- this is the way to do it. It’s going to be hard and there are no guarantees, but it sounds like you know that and are prepared to put in the work.
What do you mean by ACT scores will sink you before then in your first part?
I believe @khidhala means that your scores are not strong compared to that of most of Carlson. I believe the average for Freshman admits is 30 or so. So, you should wait until you have 60 credits to transfer.
Yes- KMizzle has it spot on. Once you have 60 credits, Carlson doesn’t consider ACT scores.
