Chance me for MIT and Harvard please, will try to chance back :)

Hi! I'm currently a junior at an IB school, I am pretty well-qualified academically and in terms of ECs, but I don't know if my ECs suffice. Please chance me :)

Asian
GPA: 4.0
HPA: really big, idk what it is though xD

Senior year: 7 IB classes, 4 higher level all in math/science, 3 standard level

Advanced Placement:
(a lot) Scored 5s on AP World History, Statistics, Computer Science A, Calculus AB, AP Macroeconomics, AP US Government, AP English Literature, AP Psychology, AP Human Geography

Other:
will be doing a biomedical research internship this summer (in the robotics lab of the facility)

No legacy, not low enough of income bracket for that to help me, etc.

I will be eternally grateful for your feedback, and please let me know what I can do to improve :) Thanks!!

Okay well your test scores and GPA give you a “chance” at both… I’m guessing you are interested in science based on your EC’s? I’m no expert, but your stats are as good as they are going to get, you just need to write the best essays you possibly can, emphasize your passions, and you have done the best you can do. Nothing is guaranteed though with those schools…so I would still call them reaches

thanks! I mostly want to see what people think of my extracurriculars. and yeah I love science haha

Well in general, your activities don’t really tell me what kind of person you are (other than that you love science and math which adcoms can already tell from scores, grades, recs).
What is boils down to is that YES your academics are stellar, but that’s the thing you’ve invested most of your time into.
You obviously have a shot, but these schools also take many students with Decent academic stats but edgier personalities and activities. I’d consider myself one of those people, and I got into MIT.

@noel597 I agree. I think that you are a very bright student, but you don’t seem like the student who is going to engage in campus activities. You come off as the person who will spend all day in the library or somewhere else jut doing work. Try to add an EC that makes you seem fun!

Honestly there is not much more you can do other than winning a big award. Your stats will definitely give you as good of a chance as any other qualified applicant, yet as you probably know the acceptance rates are just extremely low for these schools and they have tons of qualified applicants. Just make sure to take 3 subject tests because MIT requires it.

thanks everyone! and @noel597‌ and @KiaraInNYC‌ obviously the brief description I put up doesn’t show this, but I am very passionate about dance, etc which is really what I invest a large portion of my time into. I really don’t spend as much time worrying about school as the sat score and aps make it seem, lol.I’m just hoping that this will show in my app  Thanks so much for your feedback, I appreciate it!

Your GPA and Test scores are pretty low…but if you improve them you have a chance.

JK… but do you really need to ask? YOU know that your chances are about as high as are possible for someone applying to Harvard/MIT.

edit- I took comparative not US gov lol, not that it makes a difference.

It’s pointless to put chance threads for Ivy Leagues. Even with 2400’s, they’re all reaches.

Like everyone said, you can NEVER tell with HYPs because it’s just really random.
Your scores are fine but you don’t really have much that seems interesting to me?
That sounds harsh but the admissions officers want something unique so maybe write amazing essays about something that we on CC don’t know about. Something to make you stand out
But do you have a good chance? Yes.

Chance me?

Your scores and grades are fine, but like others have said, you need to stand out. Your ECs are fine, you have depth for sure and it seems like you genuinely like your activities. Just write a killer essay and hope for the best!

I feel like a slacker compared to you :expressionless: haha but i agree with the people above; Harvard/MIT get so many perfect GPA and SAT scores that yours wont do anything to stand out. Do something unique or just really impressive at your school or community and that is what will make you stand out in the pool of perfect academics.

Good Luck!
I have several threads about my chances for University of Michigan. I would love if you could check them out!

Yeah bro I think you’ll be fine. Lol.

Test scores not high enough. Retake high school to get higher GPA. Like cmon man, you know that your scores can’t get any better, your ECs are fine, and your applying to top schools. You should expect rejections from all but hope to get in nevertheless. Do you really need to asking people what your chances are when you have no room to improve and you have the same chance as every other qualified person who came to this school. Maybe if you had a 2250 we could tell you to retake for a higher score but I cannot see how your benefiting from this. Also I am hungry so if this comes off as being an a**hole you know why.

@bluberaptor Um… You just made a chance me for the Ivy League schools lol. Practice what you preach.
