Chance me for MIT, CalTech, and Washington University in St. Louis?

Hi guys! Half latina, female student; hoping to major in biomedical or chemical engineering! Wondering if you guys could tell me what you think about my chances at these schools?

Current junior in high school, first semester just ended.
I’ve only taken one AP class so far; I’m currently in 3, and I plan on taking 4 or 5 next year.

GPA: 4.0 (unweighted), 4.571 (weighted)
ACT: 34

AP Human Geography: 5

Extracurriculars:

  • volleyball
  • rowing
  • Science Olympiad
  • Community Service Club
  • NHS
  • worked as a restaurant hostess and currently as a nanny
  • taken piano lessons for 11 years
  • founder of Women in STEM club at my school
  • Math Team
  • Debate Team

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Being a) female, b) hispanic, c) interested engineering already makes you stand out. Way to maintain your gpa and act looks average for these schools. Biggest area of improvement: getting more leadership role and involving yourself more in your community (also useful for essays). Overall, I believe you would have a good chance getting in at any of these schools- only other thing i would suggest is visiting MIT/CalTech/WashU and getting a feel for their campus (can sometimes be ultra-competitive not collaborate). Good luck

You seem like a very good candidate for all of those schools but you never know. Those majors are very competitive at those schools.

How can you have a 4.57 GPA W with only three AP courses?

I think you have strong scores but your EC’s are very weak. You might get into Wash U but CalTech and MIT are reaches

Agree with the poster above. Best chance is WashU. MIT is more focused on getting some national recognition and CalTech may want to see SAT 2 scores. Actually those scores might be good for Georgia Tech or Rice if you want to do BME.

Very high chance at WashU. I think you have a good shot at MIT (assuming 700+ subject test scores). Caltech is possible but not as likely because you haven’t done enough advanced STEM ECs.

@ilovecollege6 You should probably work on your reading comprehension more.

She’s still a junior in highschool. She has taken 1 AP Class for her SOPHOMORE year. Many schools don’t offer APs for freshmen and sophomores. If she continues on her current track, she will have about 8 APs by senior year, which is perfectly fine. Where do you get the indication that she isn’t taking college apps seriously? Disgusted? Really? What’s to be disgusted about?

@ilovecollege6 why do you seem personally offended?? honestly it’s literally posts like this that have no use, aren’t constructive at all, and make this website toxic and deserving of it’s terrible reputation.your response was completely unwarranted and it seems like you are absolutely disgusting to interact with in real life or were just reallysomehow by this post
