Chance me for MIT, CORNELL

I'm a Junior in high school, going to take my SATs for the first time this January (2014).

I took my PSATs as a Sophomore last year and got an expected SAT score of 1890 (due to my scores).
I know I did a LOT better on PSATs this year because I studied for it. I'm waiting for my PSAT scores to be posted on the second week of December, so will post back once I get it.

FRESHMAN YEAR:
Ranked 5 out of 98
3 Honors courses
1st Semester GPA: 4.43
2nd Semester GPA: 4.66

SOPHOMORE YEAR:
Ranked 6 out of 96
3 Honors classes
1st Semester GPA: 4.43
2nd Semester GPA: 4.38

JUNIOR YEAR:
No ranking yet, but 1 out of 3 Juniors who receieved straight As for first quarter
1 Honors class
1st Semester GPA: 4.24
No 2nd Semester GPA yet

Sorry, no SAT scores posted yet, but I do have an expected 1890 based on my PSAT scores from last year. Will be taking my ACT for the first time in April!

I chose to focus more on my extracurriculars this year as I have had barely any extracurriculars in Freshman and Sophomore year. That's why I dropped two AP courses (my school only offers two AP courses per year) and stuck to Honors Algebra II. I am getting an A+ in that Honors class and all As in my other classes.

I have about 150 hours of community service done so far. Secretary of Future Educators Association, participate in tree-planting events throughout the year and coastal cleanups, have started my own business of selling cups/mugs and donating to cancer awareness associations (Cancer Care), currently VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE of that business, have sold pink lemonade during school hours to donate to breast cancer (Susan Komen funds). Going to be president of Future Educators Association next year (if voted for, HOPEFULLY!).

I live in a U.S. territory, and I am striving to make myself more known in my community. I am looking to start another business later on in the year.

Please chance me for:

MIT
Cornell University (NY)

You won’t get in with an 1890 unless you somehow score a 1600-290. Which would still be pretty suspect.

GPA and class rank are solid, but you need to get some solid SAT scores and write wonderful, insightful essays. Best of luck!

Thanks Petersuu and glido!
Petersuu, yes, I know! That was just an expected score based on my Sophomore PSAT. I will come back when I receive results from my January SAT or my Junior PSAT.

bump… please!

GPA, Rank, and ECs are really good in my opinion, but SAT isn’t high enough. But since you’re taking it in January, you’ll definitely have time to improve and will have a better chance then.

If you had a 189 on the PSAT in sophomore year without prep., then expect above a 220 in junior year with prep and even higher SAT confirming score. My son had a 173 in sophomore year. Then 219 in junior year with a little home prep and an even higher SAT confirming score. However, be aware that MIT and Cornell are very competitive schools. Having high SAT scores are more like a minimum requirement than a reason to be admitted.

localnerdykid, thank you! I agree, and I’m currently working on that. I will post back once I’ve taken my SATs in January and received my scores. I’m expecting about a 2000 (HOPEFULLY!). Thanks for all the support!

Thanks perazziman! I’m definitely trying to up my SAT score. I felt like I did really well on my PSATs Junior year and I am just awaiting the results. Thanks!
