Chance me for MIT

Hopping onto the bandwagon - I mostly want to know if anything needs to be improved upon or if anyone has advice regarding applying.

I am an African American rising senior applying to MIT, Caltech, UChicago, UVA, Northeastern, Georgia Tech, and Binghamton for Early Action.

GPA: My school gives grades out of 100 for which I have ~95
SAT: 1590 (800 Math, 790 Verbal), 22/24 essay
SAT 2: 790 Bio, 800 Chem, 800 Math 2
AP Tests: AP Chem, APENG Lang, APUSH, AP World (all 5s)

Extracurriculars

Science Bowl (10th - present): I am the President of the club.I have made Top 16 at the National level of competition.

Quizbowl (10th - present): I am the President of the club. It’s more of a fun club and a good learning experience

[School Name] ARISTA (10th - present): I am a member of the Operations Committee (meaning that I manage the online interface for students to get credit for tutoring - in addition to completing tutoring and volunteer requirements).

Research Club - Leader. This is a general term for upperclassmen members who run experiments and guide the newer members (we do things lik PCR, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, blotting, research Internship consultation, etc).

Science Olympiad - I am a general member. I don’t do it much, so I don’t have a ton of medals or placements (I mostly do Chem Lab, Anatomy and Physiology, and Cell Biology/Microbe Mission).

Summer

After 9th grade - I was transitioning to a new high school (I transferred) and did 92 hours of community service at the local church

After 10th grade - Telomere research and mathematics tutor for underprivileged students (part of a program), also traveled to Florida

After 11th grade - Traveled to Nigeria, performed research breast cancer research that I’m submitting to Caltech and MIT (as well as Regeneron STS)

I’m either majoring in Biological and/or Chemical Engineering or Biological Sciences.

Further Information

  • I am an AIME Qualifier (96 on AMC 12A, 8 on AIME)

All of these schools are snooty, so there’s always an excuse they can use to say no. GPA is a little on the low side, but the SAT is good. You have as good a shot as anyone. MIT has a 4% acceptance rate. CalTech isn’t much better. UChicago is about 10%. UVA and GA Tech are more competitive for out of state students, but you still have a good shot at both…if you can afford the OOS tuition. I would also consider scholarships too.

@coolguy40 Thanks for the information

I think you are competitive and you have a hook. Looks like a good list to me if your reaches don’t work out.

@MITChris I realized the pointlessness of the chance me thread and hope I’m following the right steps to applying to MIT sideways. Thanks for your response!
