Regular: HYPM, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, WUSTL(applying for merit scholarships only)
Williams, Swarthmore, Carleton, Davidson(applied for merit+FA), Wash & Lee(applied for merit+FA),Vassar, Colby, Hamilton, Kenyon, Trinity

and give me some recommendations if possible. Thank you very much!

Acc. to me, u have an excellent chance of getting into your choice of colleges. I would suggest you to mention some of your community services, if any becoz many universities pay attention to those works…

I think you have a very good shot at all the schools besides UChicago can be a reach. Good luck! Please chance back.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1574931-chance-me-osu-please-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

I think most of these schools are matches accept for HYPSM, those are reaches. Good Luck
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569738-chances-i-chance-back.html</a></p>

I would say you have a 75% of chance if you weren’t an international student who applied for FA. Now those are all reaches simply because of the FA.

StanleyJuCru, I disagree. I know for a fact that all the Ivies and I’m pretty sure Amherst, Swarthmore, Williams are all need-blind. Unless that policy is different for international students, applying for financial aid will NOT disadvantage the OP. WUSTL however is need-aware so keep that in mind.

Amherst(ED): High Match
Baylor(EA): Low Match
Uchicago(EA): Low Reach

HYPM: Reach
Dartmouth: Match
Cornell: Match
Columbia: Low Reach
Brown: Match
WUSTL: Low Match
Williams: Match
Swarthmore: Match
Carleton: n/a but prob safety
Davidson: n/a but prob safety
Wash & Lee: Safety
Vassar: Low Match
Colby: Safety
Hamilton: n/a
Kenyon: n/a but prob safety
Trinity: Safety

Your parents’ low income may actually work in your favor if you can prove that you’ve overcome substantial economic hardship to achieve all that you have. You’ve definitely done a lot to be proud of :)

Well,StanleyJuCru, again, I’m applying for FA to SOME of the schools on my list. For other schools,I’m considering merit scholarships only(no application for FA).
However, I’m still curious what my chances will be based on my FA choices.
Any more advice?

even if FA doesn’t really matter, you know how competitive Chinese applicants are.

jae221, again, not all Ivies are need-blind to int’l applicants.
Just curious about my chances though.
Any more chancing based on my choice of FA?

Well HYPM, Amherst and Dartmouth are fully needs-blind even to International, so you wouldn’t be disadvantaged there. However, they still are high reaches, especially for a country like China who has a lot of applicants.

Cornell won’t disadvantage you for asking for FA, but you probably will get admitted and not get FA. Cornell only has something like $5 million (I’m not sure) for International Financial Aid. The competition for this is insane and I don’t think that you would make the cut. We’re talking like less than 2% of admitted International students, I believe.

Uhm, anywhere else you’ll be disadvantaged (sometimes not so much, other times very severely) for asking for FA.

You have a great chance to get into your desired universities.
You also have awesome credentials for an international applicant.
Good luck!
Chance me http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1575392-will-my-class-rank-gpa-make-up-my-low-sat-scores.html</a></p>

THX a lot! Suppose I don’t apply for FA at some selective schools (e.g. Columbia, Uchicago, Brown), and apply for merit based only( Uchicago, WUSTL), what will my chances be at the schools mentioned above?

Well, BestOfTheBest, applying for financial aid IS a huge risk for internationals(esp. at selective colleges).
I know someone in China who scored a 2240 on SAT, 800s in all 3 SAT subject tests, and won the gold medal as the 1st place in Chinese Math Olympiad yet got rejected by all US schools because of his application of full-ride FA.
Maybe you’d think that Brown, Caltech, Columbia, Duke, HYPM, Williams, Stanford, UChicago all have generous FA policies to int’ls… the truth is, apart from a few schools(HYPSM), most are need-aware. It’s highly likely that one will be rejected BECAUSE of the request for financial aid( tuition+room+board+fees) even with amazing credentials.
So, considering the request for FA, do you have any recommendations on school choices?

How good will be the acceptance if you dont have the $$$ to attend?
Think one more time!

Well, mak1702, I’m thinking of applying to some merit-based external scholarships…
Do u have any suggestions on that?

Merit based external scholarships are very less in number for intl’s and are also very hard to get. People with 36 on ACT and 2400 on SAT also apply , so certainly they would be in advantage.
See Brother , I think you are a strong candidate , if your essays are exceptional , I know you will get in. Do apply for fin aid. You can only afford 5k. It cannot even cover for room and board. Wise policy is this that you apply fin aid and write tremendous essays.

Can you chance me for Vanderbilt anyone ??? Will chance back
Can u possibly chance me ??? (Ps I didn’t name all of my extracurriculars for confidentiality reasons but I have good ones). Also applying ED1 LOVED the school !!!
3.67 unweighted GPA (all honors classes and 2 languages)

Head of cancer organization on tristate area with a lot of clubs in different schools and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars
-student government (all 4 years)
Varsity tennis
Award from state senate for exceptional community service in bringing food to a homeless shelter
President of model un
A few more good extracurriculars that are impressive
Glowing letters of recommendation
Great essay

Thx a lot for your advice!( though I must say, competition for int’l fin aid is insane, esp in China…)
Bump! Any more advice?

Amherst(ED): Low reach
Baylor(EA): Safety
Uchicago(EA): Reach

HYPM: Reach
Dartmouth: Low reach
Cornell: Low reach
Columbia: Reach
Brown: Reach
WUSTL: Low reach
Williams: High match
Swarthmore: High match
Wash & Lee: Safety
Vassar: Low Match
Colby: Safety
Trinity: Safety

Chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1577771-i-will-chance-back-chance-me-top-tier-schools.html</a></p>

It’s hard being an international looking for FA at some of these schools, especially from Asia. Be careful with the need aware schools, and those not very good on FA, but for the need-blind, full FA for international schools (HYSM), I think, like everybody else, you are a reach.
