List of Schools (Yeah I know its long but I hope this will help me narrow it down)

Purdue University
UIUC
UCB
UCSD
UCLA
UCI
UCD
BU
Rice
University of Washington
Cal Poly SLO
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
Harvey Mudd
USC
CMU
RPI
Cornell (maybe? probably not but why not?)
Cal Tech ( Just for kicks )

NOTE: Financial issues are not a problem for me. Private Universitites are fine. I am just curious to see where I stand

Also, I'm not sure if it helps you guys make your decision but it makes me feel bad to know that I might get in based on it... My father passed away in 2007. I don't think it would make too much of a difference since it has been so long. However if it does, let me know. I won't use it to my advantage but I'm curious to see what effect it has.

If you guys have any suggestions on where I should apply EA or ED it would be much appreciated! Also if you think taking Calculus III (Multivariable) at a community college would help then be sure to let me know!

Your stats seem like you would be very qualified for most of these schools (given that you’re retaking the SATs). I am fairly familiar with BU and RPI and I don’t think you would have a problem. I have heard that the UC schools are really hard to get into if you are not from CA (though from the amount of CA schools you are applying to I wound say that you are?) I think you would have a pretty good chance at Harvey Mudd and Cornell, but CalTech is always a gamble. Luck!

**can you add Brown’s PLME program and Lehigh/Drexel accelerated med program to the bunch. Thanks :)

Thanks so much!

Chancing you back right now!

Oh yeah! I am from CA (Socal)

Anyone else?

Good ECs. Just work on the SAT I. But I see you standing a good shot at the schools you listed. even go for Cornell early if you feel like you’re committed. As for your dad, I’m sorry to hear that. It’s extremely unfortunate, but you’re in a different situation than most applicants and have had to overcome something very difficult. It’ll probably help, if anything. Best of luck!!

Thanks so much! I chanced you back!

I know I have to work on the SAT I…Thanks for the motivation for Cornell ED cause I really want to go there!

Anyone else Chance me?

bump bump…

Anyone? I still need to get a better idea of where I should apply EA/ED. I’m thinking of Cornell but I don’t know if I have good enough stats for it.

Your ECs and GPA are up to par for those schools on your list. The only problem is your SAT. If you can get that score up you would be set.

Good luck with the application!

bump…bump…

Anyone Else? I’m curious to see where I stand cause I have to start applying EA/ED soon!

Suggestions please! or other good schools where you think I have a chance even!

bump…Please anyone???

I think you GPA and ECs are good enough. As you mentioned, get those SATs up. A 1340/1600 is a good score but still below average for schools like RPI,CMU,Cornell,Berkeley,Rice and USC. If you can get that up to say 1450/1600 range I think you have a great chance at those.

Your grades are fantastic as well as your fluency in 5 languages. Bring that SAT up and you have a shot at all these schools except Cornell (but you can never tell with those.)
Really you are a wonderful applicant and everything is fantastic except that SAT. Bring that up and you have a very good shot at all of these schools…

chance back? (look at my most recent thread)

Thanks so much!

Do you think Cornell ED would be worth it? If I could bring my SAT up of course

bump…anyone?

Rice, Cornell, CalTech, and Harvey Mudd are reaches with your SAT, but the others look good! As for Cornell ED, DO IT! Cornell is so incredible and if you really love it, it is completely worth it! I have so many nice things to say about Cornell! Good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1196782-chances-brown-will-chance-back.html

The extracurriculars you have are stellar for the major you are planning on going into considering you have an international title to your name.

That being said, provided you get your SAT up to maybe 2250-2300, you’d be set for any of those schools save Caltech, which tends to have large numbers of stellar applicants that bring forth perfect GPAs, perfect test scores, etc.

Cornell would also be somewhat more difficult, but you would have a fairly good shot if you applied Early Decision.

Just a word of advice on narrowing down the college choices though, you could probably knock out Purdue, and several of the UC schools. Overall, if you were to improve your test scores, you would be almost guaranteed a spot at UIUC, and their engineering program is one of the best in the nation.

Thanks a lot guys!

Do you guys think that I would have a shot at Duke? (ED)

Also what range should I shoot for for my SAT?

Bump…anyone? Please I need some deciding help

Bump…bump…

Anyone please D:

You really don’t have a shot here until you bring your SAT up to 2200+ levels. I also think your UW GPA is low for a lot of these schools. You have great ECs and seem to have a lot of material that would write a very compelling essay. You just need to play your cards right – and raise the SAT, please. A 720 Math score, for an intended math/science major, does not look good.

These are all based on your current SAT score:

Purdue University - possible admittance
UIUC - likely rejection (top engineering school)
UCB - rejection
UCSD - rejection (desirable for sciences)
UCLA - rejection
UCI - acceptance
UCD - acceptance
BU - acceptance
Rice - rejection
University of Washington - possible acceptance
Cal Poly SLO - rejection (impacted for math/science)
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor - rejection
Harvey Mudd - rejection
USC - rejection
CMU - rejection
RPI - rejection
Cornell (maybe? probably not but why not?) - rejection
Cal Tech ( Just for kicks ) - rejection

For the big bulk of these I listed as rejection, I think they’d turn into acceptances if you got a 2250 (UIUC, UCSD, Rice, USC, SLO, Harvey Mudd, CMU, RPI, Cornell.) CalTech won’t happen with your GPA.
