I applied to the following schools:
UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Stanford, UT Austin, Minnesota-Twin Cities, Colorado School of Mines, and Northwestern.
I am an Asian/East Indian male California resident. I would like to major in Chemical Engineering.
My UC GPA is 4.175 and weighted GPA is 4.07. I am 27 out of 689 in my class. I will have taken AP Euro, AP Lang/Comp, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, and AP Lit/Comp.
I play three sports (football, basketball, and baseball) and have been varsity in all three for the past two years (this is a huge time commitment which I noted in my apps). I have been a team captain on all of these teams. Class Senator 10th and 11th grade. Club officer all four years for my class club. I have been on various committees at my school including Homecoming, Cultural Awareness Day, Sadie Hawkins Dance, 9/11 Assembly and our blood drive. I volunteer at my Church. I have over 125 hours there. I also coach a youth basketball league from February to March every year. I also donate blood regularly. I also had to take care of my very sick grandmother for a year which is why my GPA is not as high as it could be. I also wrote about this in my essays. My essays I think are pretty good.
My ACT scores were better than SAT Scores. I got a 29 on the ACT both times. and super scored I got a 32.
Thanks for your opinion. I know some of the schools I will not get into for sure but I decided to apply any way.

Odds are quite good at UCB, UCLA, UCSD, even it’s impossible to be 100% but you definitely have a very good shot. UCSB, UCI, Colorado School of Mines, UMN-TC are matches, odds are very good you’ll get in.
Stanford is unpredictable. So is Northwestern. UT Austin is very difficult to get into from OOS.
Have you run the NPC’s? Talked with your parents? Can they afford OOS tuition at UT, MN, Colorado, without any financial aid?

Thanks, for that. UCB and UCLA are my first choice so if I get in there it will be fine $ wise. I will most likely not get any financial aid due to parent’s income. They have planned well for my college. However, Stanford, Northwestern, and Texas OOS might be out of reach for us.

Your ACT score is a little low at a 29 (not sure about which schools superscore), but a 32 is much better. Maybe try retaking to get a 33 to boost your chances at some of the reach schools. Your extracurriculars show dedication and focus! Good luck!
